Hi all I am working on a project, probably similar to the one Heather Bray is doing, and was wondering if anyone has access to photographs of the following from WW1. They are all names of those who lost their lives, and were from the Kiwitea/Kimbolton area in the Manawatu. I do have photos of a couple of the names, which are noted so not looking for any of them. Many thanks. Hi Ian: Re the A Wisknowski, casualty in WWI, "nothing known"; a soundex search of the NZSG WWI CD comes up with several possible spellings of the surname: Wisnesky, Wisneskey, Wisnewski, Wishnowski, Wishnewsky, Wishnowsky. However most are in the First or Second Reserves, and those that enlisted do not have first name or names starting with A. Yours, John Wilson > > I am working on a project, probably similar to the one Heather Bray is > doing, and was wondering if anyone has access to photographs of the > following from WW1. Hello Ian Looks like your "WISKNOWSKI, A" is probably: WISNOFSKI, Alexander Charles - 11/1612, died of injuries on 6 Nov 1918, aged 22 years, buried Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel His WW1 file has not yet been digitised and he was too young to be on the Electoral Roll before he left NZ but his parents (NOK) were in Taikorea and his probate was in the Palmerston North Court so there seems a good chance that he is your man. Angela
Hi Ian: Have asked for the WWI personnel file for Alexander Charles Wisnowski to be digitised (several weeks?). The CWGC website says his parents were Frank & Bertha, and the Cenotaph entry mentions Taikorea, Palmerston North. He was an armourer, and killed by the accidental discharge of a revolver. http://muse.aucklandmuseum.com/databases/Cenotaph/59014.detail?Ordinal=1&c_surname_search=wisnofski&c_warconflict_search=%22world+war+i,+1914-1918%22 http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/653590/WISNOFSKI,%20ALEXANDER%20CHARLES Yours, John Wilson Subject: Re: [nz] WISNOFSKI,Alexander Charles (was More Soldiers Photographs) > Hello Ian > > Looks like your "WISKNOWSKI, A" is probably: > > WISNOFSKI, Alexander Charles - 11/1612, died of injuries on 6 Nov 1918, > aged > 22 years, buried Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel > > His WW1 file has not yet been digitised and he was too young to be on the > Electoral Roll before he left NZ but his parents (NOK) were in Taikorea > and > his probate was in the Palmerston North Court so there seems a good > chance > that he is your man. > > Angela >
