    1. [nz] how did Jessey Jarrold get to NZ?

    3. One my big yet-to-be-solved mysteries is to find out how Jessey (spelled variously- Jessy, Jessie) Jarrold reached NZ some time before1875. These are my current clues: * 1875 - the date given in her will. * her ITM stated she had been in NZ 1 year * she had an illegitimate son, Frederick William, born at sea. I have not been able to find a birth certificate for him. He died aged 15 on 31 January 1890 of phthisis (Tb). His step-father was the informant. * she married Harry Byers in Palmerston North on 10 July 1875; her marriage certificate described her as 22, spinster, domestic. I have searched shipping lists - maybe I’m not doing it correctly - but it’s very frustrating not being able to pin her down. I have come across surname variations for other family members: Jarrald and Garrold in censuses in England. Here’s hoping. Paddy Tasmania

    3. Unless a passenger was onshipping to NZ from farther places, usually through a major shipping line and passenger records were transmitted from departure ports, you are unlikely to find her.. It is far less likely she would be named on a local steamer from Australia to NZ. Some records from Victoria Aus to NZ are available. But I expect you have checked them, If you look in TROVE you will find daily advertisments from shipping lines wanting passengers to NZ. My Howe family arrived in the Bay of Islands 1839 HOW? as brother in law was a ships Master, no doubt they came undocumented with him. Even as late as within the last few years an aquaintance with a prostitute daughter, who had been deported from Aus, in few weeks later had returned to Aus via some crews quarters.cheers penne From: "Patricia Byers" <petpad.byers@gmail.com> To: "NZ Rootsweb" <New-Zealand@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 10, 2014 9:56 AMSubject: [nz] how did Jessey Jarrold get to NZ?
