There is a Polish family history on line. Dodunski - Schimanski from Stratford, New Plymouth area. Has a list of Zimmermans. Maybe surname anglicized in war like our Rose from Rosenstein. Noeleen. -----Original Message----- From: Adele Pentony-Graham [mailto:pentonygraham@xtra.co.nz] Sent: Wednesday, 14 November 2018 12:06 PM To: new-zealand@rootsweb.com Subject: [nz]ZIMMERMAN
Adele, The CWGC website has an Anton ZIMMERMANN died 1918 , one of seven German servicemen buried in Esquelbecq Military Cemetery, France, however I doubt he is the Antos Anatasius ZIMMERMAN your contact is looking for. Without having seen the BDM certificates, I can't be absolutely certain - but it looks very much like Antos Anatasius ZIMMERMAN/N died as a 5 year old child in 1894 and was buried in Inglewood Cemetery (Taranaki) with his mother, Barbara ZIMMERMAN, who died in 1889. The New Plymouth City Council website shows Barbara ZIMMERMAN was buried in Inglewood Cemetery, Memorial Area, Row C, Plot 3SE on 16 April 1889 and 'A ZIMMERMAN (child)' was buried in Inglewood, Memorial Area, Row C, Plot 3S on 31 March 1894. The NZ BDM website shows Barbara/Burza & Franz ZIMMERMANN had six children in NZ. Two of those six children had the initial "A"; they were Agnuska, born 7 Dec 1878 and Antos Anastasius born 3 May 1888. Agnuska (Agnes) would have been 15 and a half years old in March 1894 and thus unlikely to be considered a 'child' at the time but Antos Anatasius, born 3 May 1888 was still only 5 years old in March 1894. Furthermore, there is a marriage for an Agnes Annie ZIMMERMANN & Arthur James GOODWIN in 1900. The New Plymouth City Council website has two people with these names buried together in Te Henui Cemetery, New Plymouth. This Agnes Ann GOODWIN died 1963 aged 84 seems to match Agnuska ZIMMERMAN born 1878 which further tends to exclude her as the 'A ZIMMERMAN (child)' buried in Inglewood in 1894. The NZ BDM website has no ZIMMERMAN/N deaths in 1894. However I've found my own Swedish ancestors with 14 different surname spelling variations in the NZ BDM records - so as the NZ BDMs do not have a wild card search I suggest checking the NZ BDM microfiche will almost certainly turn up a likely match for an Antos Anastasius ZIMMERMAN/N dying in 1894. Furthermore, I have Danish/German relations in Inglewood from the 1870s and some years ago the local sexton gave me copies of the Inglewood burial register which were most helpful in tracking that branch of my family. I have little doubt that the Inglewood burial register will show more details about the name, sex & age of the ZIMMERMAN burial in Inglewood in 1894. Incidentally, it appears that Antos Anastasius ZIMMERMAN/N (born 1888) was a half-brother of Francis Xavier ZIMMERMAN (born1895) who was KIA in 1918 in WW1. The CWGC website has an Anton ZIMMERMANN died 1918, one of seven Germans buried Esquelbecq Military Cemetery, France - however I doubt he is the Antos Anatasius ZIMMERMAN your contact is looking for. As above, I believe your Antos Anatasius ZIMMERMAN/N died as a 5 year old child in 1894 and was buried in Inglewood Cemetery (Taranaki).
