I am trying to track down details of witnesses at the wedding of my gr great grandparents Adam Moore and Charlotte Richardson. The couple was married in 1864, when aged 44 and 45 respectively at St Matthews Anglican Church. The writing on the church marriage record is not easily decipherable for the witness' signatures especially but it looks like a.. Eleanor Thewlis, laundress, of 3 ?otago cottages Nelson street Auckland b.. and ? george Walker, labourer, Symonds street Are there any directories for circa 1864 which list residents per street? My ancestors lived in Nelson street at the time of their marriage (ref ITM) and i'm curious to see if the female witness was a neighbour or whether she was a connection from Ireland. And secondly was there a building in Nelson street which was named either 3 or 30 and a word that looks like otago cottages please. My search interest is in the residents in either of these streets. Could any listers head me in a particular direction please? Chris in Melbourne
years ago I found my ancestors in a 1866 directory of auckland living in Cook St. (not far from Nelson St). Cannot remember where directory was but check with Auckland City Library. One of those early researches where i did not record all the details of my sources.
