    1. [nz]Notification of potential changes to Marriage Certificate in Australia-
    2. Chris
    3. This is significant information that needs to be shared with our NZ listers. The Attorney-General's department, in Canberra, has called for comments by 28th October 2018 on proposed changed to the Notice of Intention to Marry. Changes will flow on to the Marriage certificate. The background is that the Australian Marriage Act was amended late in 2017 to permit equality of marriage for same sex couples. Forms need to be changed to reflect this. What is being proposed is a reduction in details previously recorded on the Notice of Intention to Marry (NOIM), namely that couple's occupation, usual place of address and mother's and father's names do not feature on this draft form. On the Aus-Tas list some of us are quite concerned about the impact on families and children if this recording is omitted. We agree that basic changes need to be made but not the wholesale ones being suggested. 3. Chris Thanks for the heads-up on this. I was not aware, and I live in Australia. What a silly thing to do to reduce information. Already in Australia, even if the information was on the original certificate, they no longer print the parent's marriage date if you order a certificate now. At least that is the case for Queensland. I followed the links, and unfortunately, it appears they only want to hear from marriage celebrants. I wrote an email anyway. I don't expect to get a reply. The following link might be a bit easier, unless it morphs into a multi-line address. https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.ag.gov.au_Consultations_Pages_review-2Dmarriage-2Dforms-2Dnoim.aspx&d=DwICAg&c=kKqjBR9KKWaWpMhASkPbOg&r=-mWZZZeVf-T2XFKEtPE1g25Egq_c7AQAHDafyY9XXQQ&m=0Y5rwKaS8BWZE5NLJZsu-fBDPsvVZl71-MWmNiWRhz4&s=q1gZxZmRpFIVMJ-isDV4ETLTLdnW4MLl8pgpePZK4tc&e= Jennifer (also in Melbourne) -----Original Message----- From: Chris <ckealy@ozemail.com.au> Sent: Saturday, 13 October 2018 10:32 PM To: NZ RootsWeb <new-zealand@rootsweb.com> Subject: [nz]Notification of potential changes to Marriage Certificate in Australia- This is significant information that needs to be shared with our NZ listers. 3. Hi Jennifer, It seems that while the email address at A-G's is marriage celebrants etc, that comments are not just limited to marriage celebrants. That is why many of us are writing to express our concern.
