Hello all, We're still trying to find the parentage, birthplace and birthdate of one Thomas Tunnicliffe, , who came to New Zealand in 1842 on the Clifford and who settled in Nelson. We do know the following things: His death entry in New Zealand says that he was born in Warwickshire in England and died at age 75, making his birth year around 1807. It also gives his parents as Joseph and Sarah (formerly Cartwright). The family tree I have has the same parents. He married Hannah Richardson on 18 Feb 1827 in St. Michaels Church (aka Bablake Church?), Coventry (reference Bishop's Transcript). His entry in the 1841 census for Spon Street Coventry (in Warwickshire) says that he wasn't born in that county. His age is given as 30, however the 1841 census, for that age, could be +- 5 years. Reference 1841 census A family tree for Tunnicliffe in New Zealand that I have says that he was born in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. A search of the Parish Register has some Tunnicliffes, but no Thomas around the required year. There is a Thomas Tunnicliffe born in Repton, Derbyshire with parents Joseph and Sarah, baptised 14 Dec 1806. As far as I can tell, this Joseph and Sarah were married by license at Stone, Staffs, on 13 December 1804. There is a potential brother, Joseph Tunnicliffe, baptised at Penn Lane-Independent, Melbourne, Derbyshire 14 Jul 1805 - reference Parish Register transcript on IGI. Born 4 June 1805 at Repton Derbyshire - reference 1851 census. This would mean that Joseph was conceived out of wedlock, thus the baptism place and an explanation for the license. So to my question. Has anyone determined the actual birth place for Thomas and would be prepared to share it? Kind regards, Keith Jeffery
