There is a cemetery which fits this description and it was pretty run down when I last saw it (years ago). This is a cemetery on the highway in Matakana, north of Auckland and not far past the turn-off to Matakana village. The cemetery is on a hillside, on left side of the road and not visible from the road. One drives past the hill which rises steeply from the road side, with a steep driveway running back towards the township from which you can gain access on foot. My g g grandmother and family are buried there. Could this be 'the one'? Hi Susan I know the one you mean I think. Visited it a few years back. Matakana Public cemetery https://www.flickr.com/photos/porkynz/albums/72157626565555372 I don't think it's the one being queried about.
