    3. Hi Margaret, I have a child who was adopted in June 1918. The birth certificate issued at that time states "Adopting parents" in the column headed Parents- where married, where married etc but has brackets linking to the Adopting Father's name in the Father's column and the Adopting Mother's name in the Mother's column. It makes it very clear. Hope this helps. 3. In Victoria where I live, I know that in the distant past, a child who was adopted was granted a new certificate under the surname of the adoptive parents, and that there was a distinguishing prefix number attached to the registration number. Registry staff would be alert, as well as staff in adoption agencies. There was considerable concern about this "discrimination" and impetus to change this practice . My understanding is that changes occurred in 1989 to ensure that all birth certificates for adopted children were not identifiable, and that the registration numbers were in line with every other non adopted child. End of discriminatory practice! It may be useful to have a discussion with registry staff in NZ Chris in Melbourne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret Hubert" <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 29, 2018 5:57 PM Subject: [nz]adoption > When a child is issued a new birth certificate after adoption, does the > certificate have "adopted" on it. > > _______________________________________________ > > The List Guidelines > > http://new-zealand-l.blogspot.com/ > > _______________________________________________ > Email preferences: http://bit.ly/rootswebpref > Unsubscribe and Archives > https://mailinglists.rootsweb.com/listindexes/search/new-zealand > Privacy Statement: https://ancstry.me/2JWBOdY Terms and Conditions: > https://ancstry.me/2HDBym9 > Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blog > RootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb > community
