    3. Hello everyone! All is not lost in this day and age. Found a site that closely resembles rootsweb, its called groups.io, the difference is you you can do things like posting attachments, photos etc as well as the things you are doing on rootsweb. Have a look. I will allow postings at the moment about this site. Hugh Listowner

    3. Hello Hugh, Like so many other listers, i am shocked and disappointed at this announcement from Ancestry. This list has been invaluable in my tracking down my ancestors who arrived in NZ from Australia in 1850s. i have really enjoyed participating in the searches as well for other listers. Thank you Hugh for your management of this list, and for the input from other listers. Truly wonderful and generous. 3. Thank you Hugh for being the list coordinator for the last 20 years and thank you to the true blue kiwis who have shared their knowledge on the list over the last two decades, you became my friends. The list wouldn't have been good without all of you participating. The best part of genealogy is sharing an I have enjoyed been an active member of this mailing list. A NZ community Facebook will probably be the way to go. Hope word gets out about a site before this list folds 20th March. Ancestry message boards are not the answer. Family history interest over all is declining but there is still a need for an active list. 3. Hi Hugh and others, I agree -- info on the list messages has been invaluable. I also belong to an [ENG-WESTMORLAND] list and one contributor has suggested this: "Suggest the list administrator sets up a (free) Google group, by directly adding all existing list members." Anyone know about this facility? I don't. Could this be a solution? If so, is it one that could be shared among all list administrators? Cheers, Susan

    3. Pretty guttered actually. I’ve been doing family history on and off for 20 years since I was in my mid twenties and knew nothing at all! I think of the massive amount of generous altruistic help and support over those years from this group and I’m very sad that that won’t be continued for those yet to find this passion. You are all wonderful and I’ll miss reading the messages (even if I have nothing to contribute to them) - I’ve learnt so much and made contact with distant cousins and like minded people. This year marks 170 years since then so would like to have it done,.Have also inherited a huge amount of research from my mother after she passed away on another family ( Osborne from Oxford and Vince leeston) and would like to honour her by publishing it Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone On Sunday, January 5, 2020, 9:23 PM, Fiona B <honeymoon8@gmail.com> wrote: Is one of your goals for the year to actually turn some of your family history research into a publication? 3. Is one of your goals for the year to actually turn some of your family history research into a publication? Well so is mine and to help me to get it done by the end of the year I've broken the writing process down into 12 steps. To make it more fun I thought it would be good to share the idea with others and then we could all have lots of books published by Christmas. Hence *Plan to Publish - Your Family History. * You can read more about it here: https://memoriesintime.co.nz/blogs/news/plan-to-publish-your-family-history The first guide is available now and is free to download, follow the link on the blog post. 1. [nz]Valet + housekeepers to Sir George Grey
    2. Hello. I had been told years ago by a relative who I believe has now passed away, that a relative and his wife had at one time been valet & housekeeper to Sir George Grey. This would have been after early 1867. I can find no mention of them in anything that I have found to date on Grey. Does anyone know whether such records exist? It is a bit of a puzzle and it is compounded by the fact that my relative did not always use the same name. There are several versions to pick from . . . . LOL Thanks, Beth
