Hi Beth I have a feeling that in France the word quarry (quarres) is used in relation to the digging of stone or sand. Does this make any sense in the context in which it is used in your document? Hi This George Gapes was my great grandfather. He lived in Northland and the sections he sold dropped down the hill towards the botanic gardens. There is a road there called Orangikaupapa Road. Stephanie Kitching 04-388-5887 h

Wonderful book have my own copy to help with research, see Charles Rooking Carter came up on it. anyone read the latest book about Charles Rooking Carter, by Parliamentary Historian John E Martin. well worth a read!! have my signed copy from John himself. as was able to assist him over the years, here in Carterton and over in Derbyshire etc.. A Colonist's Gaze launched 2018 at Carterton Events Centre. Through this NZ Rootsweb site, I was able to make contact with Mrs Rooking Carter's relation here in NZ, never knew she had any until the lady in person made contact with me, and she has visited Carterton several times.. so I owe a lot to NZ Rootsweb!! Charles came from Kendal, so we arranged that Kendal Mayor should get a copy of this very book, also their Library has one now. Adele Clareville
Hugh and List I live in Australia and am with Bigpond. They, very frustratingly, do not forward all emails via Rootsweb to us. I receive Rootsweb in Digest mode, for Ayrshire, Tasmania and NZ, but today, Saturday, I have only just received intimation of the mails from Nirvard and Olwyn about the move. The full emails did not arrive. I have not received 19 Digest mails; an awful lot of single emails that just have not arrived !!! I am writing this to the List in case there are others with Bigpond that may well not be receiving regular List mails, and could miss out on the details of the transfer. I have joined the List on Groups.io, and am sending this as a test there as well. Here's hoping Bigpond do not "censor" Groups.io as they have Rootsweb!
