The other day I had a couple researching George Arnold of Carterton, now this family arrived in NZ on Dallam Tower 1875, so cannot be the George Arnold who is listed earlier in Carterton, who was he, anyone connected please, he is on an old map of the area, possibly land down Dalefield Road as it is called today, but previously Arnold's Line.. George Arnold who came out in 1875 was from East Grinstead. Sussex. England. Two little ones are buried at Clareville for this family, so we visited the site. Also went down to Greytown as connections there as well.. But interested in the first George Arnold, or perhaps he wasn't George, but the surname was Arnold. I know there are Arnolds at Masterton and Palmerston North, but no relations.. This George Arnold was a brickmaker. I notice up at Clareville Cemetery some burials off more recent time for this surname, but there again, no connection as I asked the couple.. it was whilst they were at Masterton Archives checking up on the name, that they were told on a map another Arnold listed. I do have on my Map of the area an Arnold next to land owned by the Mc Partland family, which is in the area where the Dalefield Dairy Factory was (Dalefield Road) Thank you. Adele

Hi, On an earlier page of the same website: http://www.if-9.de/zei_b21.htm <http://www.if-9.de/zei_b21.htm> <<snip>> (bolding is my emphasis) This is the city that I love. It is my Wellington-by-the-Sea, surrounding a beautiful deep-water harbour that has seen a tapestry of New Zealand history roll out along its shoreline and amongst its hills. Buried among the buildings of the city are many historic trails and localities which have witnessed those momentous and common-place events that make up the life of the city. Situated along the seaward side of Frank Kitts Park, on the Wellington waterfront, is a series of 8 brass plaques. These plaques commemorate events in history associated with Wellington and Wellington Harbour. Series 2 in our tales of Wellington City relates the stories behind each of these plaques and continues our ramble through the Capital City of New Zealand. Series 2, Part 7 25 Infantry Battalion, 2NZEF [links to http://www.if-9.de/zei_b210.htm <http://www.if-9.de/zei_b210.htm> ] This story is dedicated to all those who bravely served with 25 Infantry Battalion of the New Zealand 2nd Expeditionary Force during World War Two. <<end snip>> Cheers, Susan -----Original Message----- From: new-zealand-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:new-zealand-bounces@rootsweb.com <mailto:new-zealand-bounces@rootsweb.com> ] On Behalf Of Helen Carter via Sent: Thursday, 18 September 2014 00:30 To: NEW-ZEALAND@rootsweb.com Subject: [nz] 25TH Battalion Memorial Plaque I've found a lovely memorial plaque, looks like a metal plaque on a wall, commemorating those soldiers from the Central NZ Provinces, Wellington, Taranaki and Hawkes Bay who served with the 25th Batt during WW II Where is it Found here http://www.if-9.de/zei_b210.htm <http://www.if-9.de/zei_b210.htm> The List Guidelines http://new-zealand-l.blogspot.com/ <http://new-zealand-l.blogspot.com/> ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NEW-ZEALAND-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Hello Helen I didn't know about that book. Please can you tell me if there is any reference to George and Mary Elizabeth Cooper, who arrived in 1851? Their daughter Jane was born on Banks Peninsula that year. If so, I'll hunt it out. Jan key questions are how old the adopted person is, and how settled in life they are. If this is a teenager, tread carefully . . . But links are good for everything from checking medical histories on, and you can have contacts for your own purposes if you choose to manage them carefully. Good luck migs > Subject: [nz] Adopted children > > Can anyone tell me how much information adoptive children are given about their birth parents. > I have had a lady contact me today who is the adoptive mother of someone in my family. . . . having had a child adopted out myself I am keen for the person to get in touch.
