Hello Ruth: Monica FOX is buried at the Makara Cemetery operated by the Wellington City Council. If you Google: Makara Cemetery and follow the lead to "Cemetery Search" for Makara Cemetery you will find the details. Also, there is a photo of the headstone at the bottom of the details. Note the spelling of the cemetery, Makara not Kakara. I have not been able to locate any other family members. Hullo all, does anyone know the year the Tongahoe river near Manutahi in South Taranaki flooded. It would be about the 1950’s or early 1960’s as I have two photos of a train going over the viaduct. I remember visiting the site as my uncle worked for railways. The trains could only go slowly over the bridge. I found an article on Papers Past about a 1924 flood there but of course that was much earlier. I would like to be able to put a date on the photos I have. Flora Chisnall

Can someone help me while I am getting my fiche fixed up, for the cemetery records - what is on the stone if any - for Eva Harris, died 1910 & her husband Arthur William Harris, died 1959. I believe these two are at Helensville cemetery or their death notice at least states "Helensville". Their son, Alfred George Harris was cremated at North Shore Cemetery & another son & his wife Arthur William (1990) & Nellie Harris are at Dargaville. The last son, Lawrence Henry Harris (1997) I dont know where he is yet. I do have the cemetery records from NZGS but cannot use them till I get my fiche fixed again & really would like to get any clues from any of the above headstones if someone can help me. Many thanks Barbara Northland

Hullo all, Further to my earlier message, I have found that the viaduct is over the Manawapou River rather than the Tangahoe and have just found on Google that the flood was in 1966 and damage done to the viaduct was completed in 35 days. Some work was done recently in 2013 to strengthen it. Can anyone come up with a suggestion as to why she would have a nickname Corky or offer an alternative please. Maybe you lived next-door to a Corky Smith!! Many thanks Heather Tauranga

Still used today... Bob is right... Used in rapids... Try this site... I did this last year along with White Water rafting at "Kaitiaki Adventures"... http://www.kaitiaki.co.nz/sledging.php Beth, if it is the same "Sledge" as you refer to, you may like to send your reference to "Kaitiaki Adventures" as their spiel says "In 1981 the first water sledge was built" Hilton Doidge -----Original Message----- From: new-zealand-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:new-zealand-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Aotueka via Sent: Saturday, 20 September 2014 10:46 p.m. To: NEW-ZEALAND@rootsweb.com Subject: [nz] What is a sledge?
