    3. Beth, John and all listers In Dunedin it is the same. Has been for some time. Of course any photos (whether digital camera or cell phone) have to be taken with the flash turned off. Dunedin also has a low table with a desk lamp which can be angled to provide a good light on the documents, if you choose to use it. It is courteous to let staff know that you are photographing documents. 3. Hello all. I am having a few days in Auckland soon, and having limited research time I am hoping to find something on my James Gill Plunket/t 40th reg. 2096 fought and injured Puketakauere 1860, discharged in Auckland 4th Feb 1865, would it be worth a visit to the Auckland Museum Library? he had been 14 years in NZ. I have some stuff online for him, but its where he went after I am looking for. He was born Ireland to a James Plunkett and Elizabeth Gill in 1828. His parents left Ireland and went to Manchester England, where they both died. James Gill did marry in Ireland, but his family all died, the last twins and wife all Sandhurst Military Barracks Victoria Australia. I would not imagine going to Australia after discharge would have been a must do. PORT OF AUCKLAND. Daily Southern Cross, Volume XXI, Issue 2426, 29 April 1865, Page 9 J G Plunket was onboard the Queen, s s 177 tons, Cellem for tauranga and Southern Ports Naples, Wellington, Littleton, and Dunedin passengers- J G Plunket Comes.and Daldy, agents is my only lead. After he was injured, it is likely he lived in Auckland, as thats where his discharge papers say he intended to live. . Still at the Albert Park barracks? I have a day earmarked for Auckland Archives, but Auckland City Library or Museum Library for another day, which? cheers penne

Cannot find a >death or burial for either altho they may of course be still alive. > >Does anyone have access to school records from the area that show >Thomas James and Margaret as Parents??? > >Any help appreciated >thanks >Patsy Hi Patsy From following a paper trail I'm fairly sure that 'your' Margaret CARMODY died in Victoria in March 2007. I noted from earlier references to the couple that Margaret's full names were Margaret Mary, then spotted a Thomas James and Margaret Mary CARMODY living at Healesville VIC in 1980. T J was listed as a labourer, the same occupation as in the NZ references. The Ryerson Index http://ryersonindex.net/search.php has two references for a Margaret Mary CARMODY : March 2007 death of a Margaret Mary CARMODY aged 93 [ie probably born abt 1913/1914] - published in the Herald Sun (Melbourne) 31 March 2007. and Probate notice of a Margaret Mary CARMODY, late of Clifton Hill, published in the Melbourne Age on 1 May 2007 I also note that there is a CARMODY currently listed on Australian White Pages as living at Clifton Hill. As a check I thought it might be useful to try to see if Margaret's age fitted your lady of interest. You said that the couple of interest married in 1953 so I had a look at the marriage index entries and found Margaret's surname prior to her marriage. It also listed her forenames as Margaret Mary. I then looked on the BDM Historic Records site under that surname and found a 1913 birth registration index entry. It was listed with just the one forename Margaret. Further searching showed that she was born in October 1913 - a perfect fit for someone recorded as dying in March 2007 aged 93. I therefore think it highly likely from all the above that this is a reasonably recent reference to your Margaret CARMODY. Her death notice (and probate record if accessible) should give other family information. I'll send a few more details in a private message. Hope this helps Graham Hoult Kirwee, Canterbury. repaying some of the Brownie points Patsy earned about 20 years ago :-)

I would be most grateful if there were someone with the Birth Index on Fiche who was able to assist me with looking up the relevant birth registration above and then looking up the District Key Book to give a place where the birth were registered. I am also looking for the birth registration on Fiche about 1865 for a Robina (or similar spelling) GIBB or GIBBS. I can not locate this birth registration (if indeed it were registered) on the DIA site. With thanks Jenny
