    3. Hi Heather I can't tell you what the record is on thegenealogiist as I don't subscribe but suspect its probably from soldiers died or the CWGC You will be aware that roughly two thirds of service records for the first war were lost in WW2, your man appears to be amongst those lost Its not an exact science as there are many variables but by checking those soldiers with service numbers close to yours in the same regiment you can get an idea of the time frames For example (both of the Somerset Light Infantry) 26409 Herbert SMITH attested 21st July 1916 Exp Force France 23rd Aug 1916 (this man was conscripted) The following man joined up 26435 Leonard George WISCOMBE took the oath 11th Dec 1915 and attested 22nd July 1916 at Taunton (interestingly he later transferred to the Inniskilling Light Infantry as 40555) Home 18th July 1916 to 28th Nov 1916 Exp F France 29th Nov 1916 to 8th Jan 1919 He was transferred to the 2nd Bn R Inniskilling Fusiliers 29th Nov 1916 As he has a close service number in both regiments it does suggest he may have been in the same unit as your man but does not prove he was You may already have the following Medal rolls 40551 Pte DREW Fredk 40551 Pte 2 R INNIS FUS Medal card shows he had the Victory medal and British War medal which indicates he entered a theatre of war after 1915 (but could have served in the UK before that) UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919 about Frederick Charles Drew Name: Frederick Charles Drew Birth Place: Orchard Bishop, Co. 1. Re: [nz] News paper lookup please
    2. John Wilson via
    3. Hi Jenny: Re BUNCKENBURG deaths, the only one in 1983 is Henry Herbert BUNCKENBURG, on 28 March in the Registrar-General's microfiche index (which should show all for the year, unlike the RG online website which will only have those born 80y or more ago or death date at least 50y ago). He is on the NZSG Burial Locator CD, with an entry from the Seton Kellaway newspaper clippings collection. Perhaps the clipping has a reference to Wynne Nance BUNCKENBURG in the notice for the death of Henry Herbert BUNCKENBURG? Wynne Nance BUNCKENBURG appears in the RG online index as died 20/11/2007, with birth date given in death entry as 13 August 1914. The Wellington City Council cemeteries website (Karori, Makara, Bolton St cemeteries & crematorium) has three of that surname: BUNCKENBURG, Henry Herbert, 70y service 29/3/1983 (crematorium) BUNCKENBURG, Alexander Fritz Roemont, 70y, service 19/8/1985 (crematorium) BUNCKENBURG, Constance, 85y, service 24/2/2005 (Karori Cemetery) Constance must have found an existing family plot to be buried in Karori Cemetery in 2005 (new burials now at Makara), and Alexander Fritz Roemont BUNCKENBURG is in the RG online index. as died 14/8/1985, with birth date given in death entry as 6 December 1914. From the NZSG marriages CD Alexander married Constance NAULLS in 1943. However no NZ marriages (to 1956) for Henry or Herbert BUNCKENBURG (at least with that spelling of surname). Yours, John Wilson WCC website: http://wellington.govt.nz/services/community-and-culture/cemeteries/cemeteries-search > for Wynne Nance Bunckenburg died 28 Mar 1983 Wellington I can't find > anything for her except listing in NZSG Cd, about newspaper notice, Cheers > Jenny

    1. [nz] Genelogy Software update/change
    2. Ian Grace via
    3. Sorry if this is a bit off topic. For years I have used "Personal Roots Deluxe" as my preferred genealogy database. (Windows 3.1, 95 and XP) However recent Laptop upgrade is forcing me to change to Windows 7 or windows 8.1. Over the years I have experimented with various other software. However I always end up with as many 'notes' of untransfered data (GEDCOM file transfer) as did successfully transfer to the new database. Has anyone any experiences with / comments about updating "Personal Roots Deluxe" to a new program (on Windows 7 or 8.1) or getting these windows to install from PRD on CD Thanks Ian

No Gruschow comes up in the Wanganui White Pages, but there are a few other people with that relatively uncommon surname - might be worth contacting them perhaps. Paddy Byers South Hobart
