Hi Bruce the questions that people are asking about uniforms are in the digest below - item 1 mainly, withlinks to the pics. another says it has a question but doesn't seem to include a link to the pic. It's a genealogy site, so quite a few readers. But if you can add any information that I'm sure would be appreciated. You could post directly to the maillist at NZlist <new-zealand-l@rootsweb.com>or you could email me & I will post. Live from today on Ancestry. . NZ Cemetery records 1800 to 2007. These transcriptions of headstones from cemeteries in New Zealand typically include details such as name, birth date, death date, and the cemetery name and plot location. But they may also provide family relationships with name and other details about a spouse, cause of death, military dates, an epitaph, or even a description of the headstone. According to Ancestry they cover the period 1800-2007, but I found a few entries from 2008. (Thanks to Colyn in Australia for this news.) *Tip: some apparently later entries have been mistranscribed - where only a death date and age at death is given the death date has sometimes been treated as the date birth. For example, Daphne Merle Marks, who passed away on her 44th birthday in 1970, is shown as having been born in 1970 and having died in 2014. I suspect that some of the earlier entries suffer from the same problem, but as yet I haven't had time to check.* On Wed, Dec 10, 2014 at 8:57 AM, Allan via <new-zealand@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > Hi folks, > > Great resource. > > Live from today on Ancestry. > . > NZ Cemetery records 1800 to 2007. > > These transcriptions of headstones from cemeteries in New Zealand > typically include details such as name, birth date, death date, and the > cemetery name and plot location. > But they may also provide family relationships with name and other details > about a spouse, cause of death, military dates, an epitaph, or even a > description of the headstone. > > Regards > Allan > > > The List Guidelines > > http://new-zealand-l.blogspot.com/ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NEW-ZEALAND-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > ------------------------------ Message: 15 Date: Sun, 14 Dec 2014 15:20:10 +1000 From: "Jenny" <Jen_min4@bigpond.net.au> Subject: Re: [nz] Cemetery records on Ancestry To: "Ray Rob" <rayrobt@hotmail.com>, "Allan" <asteel@ihug.co.nz> Cc: Nz Rootsweb <new-zealand@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <84578BA4A1174542AF13CA4C44C57A14@BigWitch> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original And where there appears to be a double up of the entry, they can be different, one of mine had 3 entries all with different information so look at them all ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ray Rob via" <new-zealand@rootsweb.com> To: "Allan" <asteel@ihug.co.nz> Cc: "Nz Rootsweb" <new-zealand@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, 14 December 2014 12:48 Subject: Re: [nz] Cemetery records on Ancestry > >From 'Lost Cousins' newsletter : > > New Zealand cemetery records > > Over 1.6 million cemetery records previously only available on microfiche > or in printed form have been released by Ancestry > <http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-1793701-10819001?sid=NZcemetery&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ancestry.co.uk%2Fsearch%2Fdb.aspx%3Fdbid%3D60547> > - you can search them here > <http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-1793701-10819001?sid=NZcemetery&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ancestry.co.uk%2Fsearch%2Fdb.aspx%3Fdbid%3D60547>. > According to Ancestry they cover the period 1800-2007, but I found a few > entries from 2008. Thank you to all that have been trying to help me out concerning my cousin. It looks as if my only recourse is to write to this address again and see if they happened to know of her where abouts or possibly a neighbour. It appears that she may not have died but may have moved. As she is unable to write I am just hoping that she has someone that will let me know her new address. I do realise that there waas a privacy issue here as has been mentioned but I was rather desperate in case she was ill or had died unexpectedly as I am all of her remaining family now. Thank you all. Hello. I understand that Volume 1 of Memories magazine from 1995(?) had an article on the Wanganui River that I would be interested in seeing. Does anyone have a copy that I could buy or obtain a copy of the article from? Thanks, Beth
Hello. Does anyone know where I may find information about the Wereroa Boys Training Farm at Levin circa 1915-1920. And where I might find details of the boys who were sent there. Thanks, Beth
Hi Rhonda I rang the number you gave - 03 9805411 - and got the 'no such number' tone - it is disconnected. Ailsa DODGE Living in the Past Lane! in Christchurch, NZ ----- Original Message ----- From: Rhonda and Dave via To: NEW-ZEALAND@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, December 19, 2014 6:21 PM Subject: [nz] Urgent help please May I please ask if someone in Christchurch can give me a favour. I have just had a letter returned address to my my cousin who lives in Spreydon. Now this is very unusual as she has lived at her address for some years and has never mentioned moving at all. May I please ask if some one there in Christchurch could possibly ring her phone number for me and see if she is still there or the phone is not connected. She is elderly and I am just hoping that she has not died and nobody has let me know. My name is Rhonda, I live in Australia. The lady I am trying to contact is June Robbins -finch. The last number I had for her was 03 9805411. If she answers may I please ask you to get her new address if she has moved as she is crippled with arthritus and does not write at all. Thank you. Any help here is very much appreciated. I know that this is an unusual request but I will try and ring myself if I have not heard anything in the next few days. Thank you any one. Rhonda

Hi, Have you tried contacting any nursing homes close to, or in, Spreydon? There should be a list of such places in the CHCH telephone directory. The directors of these nursing homes might be able to tell you if they have/or had anyone in residence by that name. Just my two bob's worth! Cheers Ainslie. ex Kiwi in Sth Australia.
