    3. Adele The NZSG Burial Locator says there is an M/I (monumental inscription) at Martinborough Cemetery for Henry DAYSH, died 1936, age 77. While I agree that circumstantially this appears to be Henry DAYSH (1859-1936), a monumental inscription alone is seldom actual proof of burial. For example, the same Henry DAYSH (1859-1936) is also mentioned on the headstone of his first wife, Mary Ada DAYSH, nee DAVEY (c1862 -1920), at Bolton Street Cemetery, Wellington. So that's two monumental inscriptions at cemeteries in completely different locations. According to the electoral rolls, Henry DAYSH farmed at Dyerville, Martinborough from the early 1900s and remained there after his second marriage in 1923 - so it appears highly likely that he is buried in Martinborough but it must be remembered that Henry was predeceased by his first wife, by an infant son and by an adult son - all three of these family members are in different cemeteries in different towns. I don't know the answer, but it's possible that Henry was buried with (or cremated and ashes buried with) any one of those three family members. Henry must have been close to his adult son, Norman John DAYSH (1881-1924) who died suddenly and unexpectedly, as he (Henry) called the son of his second marriage by exactly the same name. As I say, I'm inclined to agree that Henry is probably buried at Martinborough but without seeing either Henry's death certificate or the burial register for Martinborough, it may still be a tad premature to conclude that Henry is buried there. Incidentally, Henry's first-born son, Norman John DAYSH (1881-1924) was married to one of my great-aunts, hence my interest in this family. I've seen the Rayner-Daysh book (pub. c1989) - it's an excellent reference source on this large family. However there are some errors in the book including the reference to my great-aunt which says she was buried with her father (my great-grandfather) - this is completely incorrect (they are buried in different towns) and simply reinforces the importance of checking and cross-checking the facts. Merry Christmas Angela

    3. Ray has come up trumps thanks, buried Martinborough, so have left the lady a reply on her cell phone, save time for her to not to look any further, also Ray sent article from Papers Past about Henry, and I think he is related to the Daysh family member I know off up in Masterton who has stock of the Rayner-Daysh books, mention this as this lady had no idea where to obtain them until I said who has the stock.. I said to her on the voice mail I guess you call it, I am not a cell phone owner, he must be in the newer Martinborough Cemetery she was checking the old one where some Daysh are.. Thanks.. have emailed Ray as well. Adele -- Adele Pentony-Graham Carterton Cemetery Clareville Researcher Carterton Researcher. and Featherston. WW1. Cemetery.

My version runs and accepts the RSV installation but will not accept disc 1 of the 1881 set to allow for further access to data. Further query: I understand (?) that only some 40% of Norfolk records have ever been transcribed to the IGI ? Your response appreciated. Les J Hewett, Napier, New Zealand.

    3. What I love about helping others, is receiving good wishes from them at this time of the year, years ago I started researching Edward Samuel, First Headmaster of Carterton School in 1880, his history is so interesting, related to Coleman Philips who started the Dairy Company in Greytown and lived at The Knoll, original house is no longer there but, have been on the property and learnt a lot of when I read writings in the old barn and handed over to Masterton Archives! share... Not only did I hear from the nearest relation today, but also a member of the family over in Melbourne, its lovely to be kept in the loop! Had a phone call today, just as I was taking the roast turkey out of the range so rang back, someone was desperate to find a grave at Clareville, I said please give me half an hour and will meet you there, explained why the delay, the turkey is for the Community Lunch tomorrow in town, talk about good timing, any later and I wouldnt want to leave it in the oven if I was out, its a coal range. Enquiry was for a Henry Daysh, but the one we found cant be him, as they wanted one dying in 1930s and this one was 1950s and wife, wrong names, so will check it out, said I had the book so must check it out.. Lady was down from Auckland and had enquired at Information Centre and they said Adele will help you and she wont mind coming out to do it either.. seems I have a good reputation to keep too! Answer would have been if I was lucky enough to have the Clareville Monumental Listings, I have the plans, but this Henry was the only one I came across, but when I can will be more thorough, have plans for Featherston and Martinborough so will check them out as well But said to them, follow me in the car will show you a Daysh property or two... Hope to get up to date with enquires in the New Year, being away in October put me back a bit! So take care these holidays please... Adele. 3. Hi All: A year or two ago, a newspaper article in Wellington said that funeral directors would find a family grave with space for another (unrelated) burial in the otherwise closed Karori Cemetery in Wellington (presumably for a payment to the family?), where otherwise new burials are at Makara Cemetery. The Wellington City Council website says that burials are avaliable at both Karori and Makara Cemetery. http://wellington.govt.nz/services/community-and-culture/cemeteries/burials Yours, John Wilson >I had two or people buried in non-related graves, further digging has shown > they were friends or distant relations I think sometime when someone > (especially a child) dies the family has no or little money so friend says > pop them in our grave, or the died far from home same result >
