Hi Listers, Happy New Year and successful researching for 2015. I have just discovered a family connection (via my Graham line) to the Lowes family of Ridley Hall, Northumberland, England. If you have connections to this family I would love to communicate with you. Best regards, Bruce Glass Papamoa Beach
My husband is not interested in family trees not even his own - he says "who cares they are dead!!" But just loves going to cemeteries which I hate doing - thank goodness for online cemetery info especially those with headstone photos. Sorry in advance - but finding the "Real McCoy" might be difficult :-) Regards Sue On Wed, Dec 31, 2014 at 10:05 AM, Jeanette deMontalk via < new-zealand@rootsweb.com> wrote: > People are strange in their responses to family research! People are strange in their responses to family research! My son only wants to know if there's any money in it, and if his paternal ancestors had 10,000 serfs in Poland, how come we haven't even got one? My sister used to say, "Are you still messing round with dead people?" For your Mccoy who came to NZ, have you tried Papers Past http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=q&e=-------10--1----0— or HistoricBDMs https://bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/search/ It was around 26º here all over Christmas!! Wonder if the following search experiences might, just might, cheer you as I am sure you do not get these sort of responses. A while ago we were at a function given by one of the largest Tea companies and my wife was sitting next to a man who had the same surname as her unmarried name so they got talking and discovered that they were related and both came from the North east of England. He gave us his business card showing that he was the companies Production Manager and also gave his home telephone number and asked us to keep in touch. Some time later I phoned that number and spoke to his wife who confirmed that I had the right person but she could not help as her husband was the production DIRECTOR...........sorry There was the time I spoke to the son of the household being fairly sure that we were related to his father but apparently not, as my name of my supposed relative was named RICHARD while, his son told me, his father's name was DICK. Then there was the man who denied any link because, he told me, 'My Dad married my Mum'.......erhh still haven't worked that one out. We inherited a lot of photos when my parents died and particularly of a family in which one of my father's brothers' and a sister married into that same family. Despite many efforts and offers to make the photos available to them since they were of their many children who were already listed on their family trees I did not manage to get a single response and another link in our chain has found exactly the same response to their attempts to contact those families. However if anybody uncovers anything to do with Charles George McCoy 1869/1871 b. London or his siblings who are just words of mouth names and who variously went to Australia/NZ/Canada. His father John is a mystery since they all seem to be unavailable on any census and seem to have been created rather than born or married. The only thing is there does seem to be rather a lot of prison time and a Judges comments that the excuse given was the most impertinent he had ever heard. Hi everyone. Happy New Year How do I find a marriage in NZ, maybe Dunedin area, about 1939. John Cecil ROGERS married Isabel PHILLIPS. Looking forward to some help on this please. *Angie *
Hi Angie According to the microfiche there are 2 marriages for a John Cecil Rogers. John Cecil Rogers married 1935 to Mary Isobel Martin - Folio No 10299 John Cecil Rogers married 1947 to Wilhelmina Campbell Harvey - Folio No 3470 I have looked at Rogers and Rodgers for surnames and also searched under John as well as any that might have Cecil in name There is no Rogers/ Rodgers married to anyone with surname of Phil/lips Then looked at Phil/lips for an Isabel/ Isobel and of course Isabella etc. Nothing matched. I was wondering if perhaps Isabel had been married previously before getting married to John C Rogers. The marriages for NZ on the DIA site are only up to 1934 Do you have access to libraries or NZSG Branches - I am not sure where you are living. If you can tell us more about where you got the information from and perhaps some circumstances we might be able to find the marriage for you, but as it stands does not appear to be in NZ. The Folio No etc also do not give indication to where the event took place - they were compiled a bit differently to the births and deaths of NZ. Hi Jane, Sorry I don't have your family. I have not seen any reply on the list so I will throw in my pennys worth. First have you searched for Lily before the marriage using the mother's maiden name? In this case Lily will be recorded as Lily Graham. The family may quietly change it to Carson and may alter her birth date as well. Another possibility is that Lily is the child who's name is not recorded. If the family had not settled on a name when the birth was registered the name could be added later. It will be added in the column on the extreme right of the page. Might be worth getting this cert. Rebecca and Henry might become Becky and Harry on other documents. Hope this helps.
