    3. -----Original Message----- From: Collins Sent: Wednesday, March 18, 2015 8:48 AM To: aotueka Subject: Re: [nz] Births, Deaths + Marriages - disgusted by their actions Just to let you know I ordered on-line yesterday a copy of a death printout and I received the printout this morning by email. Sometimes I have waited four or five days but this time it came very promptly. I can't complain at all and being in Australia I can't drive to a BDM office. I wish you better luck next time. Judith -----Original Message----- From: aotueka via Sent: Monday, March 16, 2015 4:54 PM To: NEW-ZEALAND@rootsweb.com Subject: [nz] Births, Deaths + Marriages - disgusted by their actions Gidday - thought I'd share my experience at a BDM office today. I'm looking for my man Bernard Gordon, and found a death listed on the BDM website, from 1915. Now, if I ordered a printout of the death on-line all I would need was the full name and reference/folio number. But I would have to wait for about 8 working days. So I rang them this morning and was told that if I went in to an office, I could walk out with a printout of the death in my hand. No hassle. SO, thought I,this would be a good option. So I drove the 40kms or so in to my "local" BDM office, and of course being in the city there is no parking, so I sent my daughter in while I circled. She was back after about 5 minutes and said that the counter lady rudely instructed her to fill in "form 7", and then told her to wait - it would be about 30 minutes. So she came to tell me and after I filled in the form with everything I knew (name, reference/folio, date of death), she went back up to the office. Some 45 minutes later, she came back - fuming. When it was her time and was called up, the counter lady told her to go to the library and find out where Bernard died, and she would not process the request until she had that information. Apart from the rude and dismissive treatment, why? When you do not need this information to order online? And why go the library? When my daughter told me I rang BDM and complained, and they said that I should not need the death place because I had the ref/folio number. Do the staff not know this, or are they not well trained, or are they just throwing their weight around? Needless to say I was cheesed off - the office had by that time shut and I did not get my printout. What a waste of time and effort - and petrol! I am disappointed, a trifle disgusted, and annoyed at the officious and condescending attitude of the BDM staff member. I hope that not all BDM offices and staff are like that. Sorry - I'm just having a vent! 3. Many thanks, Ray. I found the same information on the Dunedin site you sent, but it seems no MI. Is it possible to find a death notice? This seems to be the only way I will find out more about Daisy (nee Diacon in 1892), ie any children's names or other relatives. I know about her three marriages (the first to an ancestral cousin of mine (Henry Doerr) in England in 1912). I also know she had a 'little daughter' (no name in Papers Past) who was born after her second husband (Alexander Taylor, married in 1919) was killed in a bush accident in Thames the same year. Then her marriage to James Alexander Robson in 1926, and divorce in 1951. So there was a possibility of more children with James. If you or anyone can find a death notice, that would be great (assuming it has any info in it!) Also, I'm puzzled as to why her address was the Golf House, Otatara. Do you know anything about it? 2. Susan Wilson via
    3. Launch of online archive of nursing oral histories March 11, 2015 New Zealand Nurses Organisation A new website that holds an archive of nursing oral histories in New Zealand is being launched today in Wellington. The website is the brain child of the Nursing Education and Research Foundation oral history project adviser Dr Jill Clendon and an Auckland University Project team comprising Professor Linda Bryder, Associate Professor Margaret Horsburgh, Dr Debbie Dunsford and Dr Kate Prebble. Dr Jill Clendon says, "It has been a huge job getting this oral history site up and running. The web designers, Slightly Different Limited, have done a fabulous job building us a site that’s easy to use, accessible and engaging." "We are very excited about this project and its potential to improve people’s knowledge and understanding of nursing history in New Zealand. Our intention is that this is the ‘go to’ site for information about nursing history in New Zealand. We see this as a repository for all things nursing history in New Zealand." Auckland University history professor, Linda Bryder, who is speaking at the launch, says, "The oral history website is a great resource and we envision it being used by schools, institutions and anyone who has an interest in nursing and nursing history." "The site is an interesting way to explore more about New Zealand’s social history through a nursing lens." "I’m pleased that people will be able to listen to fascinating snippets of history, and dip in and out of different nurses’ stories. The audio files are the perfect length to listen to on the train or in the car." The nursing history site will become an interactive repository, with people being able to record and upload their own experiences. 3. Hi Beth: If Bernard GORDON had a rrived in Wellington in 1840 he would probably been in the Wellington Pioneer Roll compiled by Dr Scholefield in 1939-40 for the centenary, and his Scholefield papers, but there is no entry for him. Manybut not all were New Zealand Company settlers, and the records have been indexed on the Early Wellington Settlers CD (as were my Frethey & Wilkie ancestors). Yours, John Wilson Subject: [nz] Help with Bernard Gordon, please > Hello all.
