    1. [nz] Doncaster/Taylor in NZ query
    2. BRH via
    3. Hello, I haven't posted to this list for some year but thought I'd have another try in the hope that more NZ resources have become available in the interim. I have been trying to find information on my ancestors John DONCASTER and Isabella TAYLOR. They had a daughter Sarah Hannah DONCASTER, born in Rangiteiki in 1855. I have scoured the Paperspast website and found several newspaper reports regarding my Doncasters and among them a couple of reports which mention court proceedings involving John Doncaster in 1865 and also an 1869 report naming Sarah Hannah Doncaster in a criminal trial (she was the victim) but I can't find any more information about these trials. So I was wondering if it is possible to access records of that nature in that time period. I am interested in the Manawatu area in the period 1850 to 1875 Sarah Hannah was my great grandmother and family rumours passed down the generations speak of a Maori connection through the Doncaster/Taylor line but as yet I've not been able to comfirm this claim. According to their marriage record her parents John Doncaster and Isabella Taylor were married by the Rev. Duncan in 1852 at "Native Church, Te Awahou. I know the Rev. was heavily involved with the Maori in that area at that time as also was the Reverend James Taylor. Sarah Hannah migrated to Australia in 1869, the same year of the trial. In the September of that same year she married a Chinese market gardener at Wangaratta, Victoria. Sarah was only 15 years old when she married. I have a wealth of information about her life in Australia but I thought maybe someone on this list will be able to suggest where I could look for info on her NZ background. Thanks, Barry Howard, Victoria, Australia.

    3. 2009, I had a message out for York of Greytown, someone kindly contacted me in OZ distantly related to this family, if they are reading this, could they please get in touch with me...its a long shot to find them, but miracles do happen on this great NZ site! I cant remember the name, but someone has made contact for the very family here in NZ, and would like to know who the contact was in Australia... Harry York went to serve in Boer War. sadly died... before able to fight over there... his family are buried at Greytown Cemetery. Wairarapa, he was schooled at Greytown School. Buried at Kimberley, South Africa, no headstone last time I was in touch, but hoping by now its been replaced. I cannot ask the family here, as both have died recently, sad to say in Greytown. Did know them as well.. Thank you. Adele Clareville. NZ -- Adele Pentony-Graham Carterton Cemetery Clareville Researcher Carterton Researcher. and Featherston. WW1. Cemetery.
