There is a CD called discharged in NZ- created by Lyn Hughes. This lists all the regiments, soldiers enlistment/or birthplaces, occupations, ship travelled on and discharged date. I know that the CD is available through NZ Society of Genealogists and NZ listers will know, better than I, where else it's available. Henry Gell came on the Java, he married my Great grandmother Christina McKenzie in Auckland in 1866. Love to find anything mentioning him even just a list of regular Soldiers. Thanks Chris - but you don't have to wait. I understand from a lister on a different list, that once a soldier was discharged, what was considered to be relevant information was copied to his discharge papers and any "other" documents were destroyed as they were considered unnecessary. So the best information is only available from muster rolls - if you can find them. So I am on the hunt for the muster rolls of the 65th. I will keep the list posted on progress. Please let me know how you get on - you may be able to find something that could help others looking for similar records. I'm not wishing to cut across Beth's search but i was extremely interested in these posts. I also am researching a man from 65th who was discharged in NZ in 1865 and would appreciate some assistance. I have his regimental number I'll wait until Beth sees this before i add a request. Beth, There is some information about the 65th here http://hicketypip.tripod.com/history.htm Service records of enlisted men are basically only for those who were discharged to a pension - either having served 21 years, or invalided, so individual records do not exist for every man. Hello - I am wanting to find out about the No. 6 Company of the 65th Regiment that was stationed at Taranaki in 1859. Does anyone know of an "expert" on the 65th that I could contact, or the best source for detailed information. Thanks very much, Beth
Research from Victoria University of Wellington has identified the names and details of 12,000 imperial soldiers who fought in the New Zealand Wars of the 1860s. Try the database at http://www.soldiersofempire.nz/database.html Googling produces lots of leads, some physical (NatLib Wellington) and some online (UK National Archives) _______________________ Stuart Park Kerikeri, New Zealand spark@xtra.co.nz -----Original Message----- From: aotueka@xtra.co.nz <aotueka@xtra.co.nz> Sent: Tuesday, October 29, 2019 10:38 AM To: List - NZ Messages <new-zealand@rootsweb.com> Subject: [nz]Service documents for members of the 65th Regiment in NZ Hello - I am trying to find the service documents/postings for a member of the 65th Regiment in NZ over the years 1855 to 1862. They are held at the Auckland Library or was a number of years ago. I was researching my Gt grandfather who was in the 65th. They were on microfiche if I remember correctly. Hi, Thanks to those that responded to my initial inquiry regarding the identity of an emigrant surgeon-superintendent depicted in a crew photograph. It was suggested that I append a picture of him so here it is. Is it Dr. William Henry Hosking circa 1873/74? It would be good to make a positive id - and if not him then the inquiry takes a new turn - Who is the surgeon-superintendent in the photo? Thanks in anticipation - Mike
