    1. [nz]Thomas Craig Green WW2
    2. Hi, I am trying to trace the family of Thomas Craig Green of Dargaville who was a private soldier in the NZ 26th Battalion during WW2 and taken prisoner in North Africa. My reason for this is that he was one of five NZ prisoners of war (including my uncle) that were sheltered by an Italian family for several months 1943/44 after they escaped from a POW camp in northern Italy. I will be visiting the family in Italy during August after 74 years and would like to contact the family of the other men who were with my uncle. Regards, Ray Greer

    3. Making the invisible visible - Uncovering the stories of the 1893 Suffrage Petition with Stefanie Lash, ArchivesNZ Wednesday 13 June 12noon-1pm Whare Wānanga, Level 2 Central City Library, Auckland The signing of the 1893 Suffrage petition was a momentous achievement for wāhine in Aotearoa. It led to women winning the vote and was a key milestone in the fight for gender equality. We were the first in the world to achieve this. But who were the 25,519 women who signed their names? For the most part, we know very little about them. Where did they live? Where did they come from? What were their lives like in 1893? Central City Library in association with He Tohu lead curator, Stefanie Lash from Archives New Zealand, is delighted to present a background to the suffrage movement, the petition, and a look at some of the wonderful women whose stories have been discovered so far. Join us in the Whare Wānanga on Level 2 to hear some inspirational tales about the Auckland women who signed and learn how you can help us make more of these stories visible. Booking not essential, but to secure a seat please phone Central Auckland Research Centre on 09 890 2412 or book online: https://www.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz/pages/event.aspx?EventId=3015 This event will be followed up with two days of workshops “Find your - or Adopt - a Suffragette” - a guided research opportunity at Central City Library on Saturday 29 July 10.30am-3.30pm and writing/compilation day on Saturday 25 August 10.30am-3.30pm Seonaid (Shona) Lewis RLIANZA BA ILS DipRIM | Senior librarian, family history (Mon-Fri) Research and Information | Central City Library - Tāmaki Pātaka Kōrero Auckland Libraries - Ngā Pātaka Kōrero o Tāmaki Makaurau Ph 09 890 2411 | Extn (46) 2411 Auckland Council, 44-46 Lorne Street, Auckland www.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz<http://www.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz/> Twitter: @Kintalk Facebook: Auckland Research Centre CAUTION: This email message and any attachments contain information that may be confidential and may be LEGALLY PRIVILEGED. As far as I can decipher on his records he was then sent to the 1st Southern Gen Hospital in Birmingham and in Dec 6th 1916 was admitted to WOT but was back in Birmingham on the 12th of Dec. From there he was sent to Codford Base Depot and was discharged as unfit for action and sent home to New Zealand. He married Bessie Eva Shoemark in 1919 and they had 6 Children. His descendants live on in NZ Hope this helps Regards Diane Wills

    1. [nz]Re: WOT Walton on Thames
    2. Adele The hospital in WOT was in operation from 1915 to 1919 and run by New Zealanders. There are 21 who died at the hospital buried in the local cemetery with a further 74 buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery about 20 miles away. There are another 74 buried there who died in other hospitals mainly in London. I have the details of those who died but want further details of those who were treated there and survived and those who worked there. I know there were a large number of Canadians in Woodmancote but I am not sure about New Zealanders. New Zealand Avenue is still there and the pub that was called The Kiwi changed its name to The Wellington but has been closed for a couple of years but I noticed the other day it is being converted into a beauty parlour with flats on the first floor. I would be interested to learn more about your family member. Regards Graham
