    1. [nz]Re: First Fleet Convicts
    2. Tony&Ros Mooar
    3. Dear Gwyneth, We are looking for our great, great grandfather James Hogan who was born in (London) Derry in 1814 to John Hogan and Ellen O'Brien and may have been a convict. He first appeared in Port Underwood a NZ whaling station near Blenheim NZ in 1839. We believe the family may be from Killarney and after an argument with the local priest either he or his father went north and became an Orangeman. He did not raise his children as Catholics but the man who may be his younger brother Michael did so. He had some carpentry skills and is thought to have entered NZ illegally. Any help from your records would be most gratefully received. Many thanks, Tony and Rosalind Mooar in Christchurch NZ On Fri, Jul 13, 2018 at 12:20 PM, Gwyneth Watson <[email protected]> wrote: > Hello, > > I have on loan John Cobley’s ‘The Crimes of the First Fleet Convicts’ and > the 3 volume ‘Sydney Cove 1788-1892’, indexed, if anyone would like a look > up let me know. I have looked into the 1877 Waipa shipping list and I believe the Harvey listed is in fact the Maddren family who came from Penzance. My nana's uncle Sam Maddren was born the day the Waipa arrived in Lyttleton. Kind Regards, [cid:[email protected]]

    2. Afternoon. Annie Margaret DOYLE was the post-mistress at the small settlement of KERERU/KOPUTAROA in the period circa 1918 - 1924ish. She was born in Shannon in 1896 to James and Io Joanna DOYLE. And it looks like she may have died in Palmerston North in 1971. She had a sister Nellie Theresa DOYLE, and brothers James Henry DOYLE, Walter Pretoria DOYLE, Oswald Jocelyn DOYLE, and Lindsay Charles DOYLE. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who is researching her or her family. Thanks. Beth

    3. Am sorting  out my elderly Mother's stuff and have found a copy of the NZ Weekly News dated 5 May 1937. This was the month of King George 6th coronation and all of the central portion contain photos relevant to that and there is the other general features the Weekly News usually contained at that time. It does not have its pink cover any longer and is showing its age but is still readable and  interesting . So, is there anyone on the list who might like to have it? Please get in touch soon otherwise . . . Judith
