Is there anyone researching the name SAYWELL? It is believed that a SAYWELL family in NZ somewhere - possibly Taranaki, is related to Joseph Saywell TOSLAND ( 1848- 1927 )whose mother was Eliza SAYWELL the daughter of Joseph SAYWELL a blacksmith in Middlesex/ London area. Joseph Saywell TOSLAND lived and farmed in Taranaki. I would like to prove this family story one way or another if I can,so any help would be greatly appreciated. Wendy
James was born at Heriot and was working at Kelso when he enlisted for war. Alexander died at Waikouaiti on 12/11/1931 and his burial record states he was retired, aged 86, born in Scotland and in NZ for 65 years. Sarah died at Waikouaiti on 26/1/1928 and her burial record states she was aged 73, born Australia and in NZ for 57 years. There is no headstone on their grave in Hawkesbury cemetery. I suspect from other information I have that Alexander may have been working on the farm for the Preston family at Centrewood, Goodwood at the time Sarah died. According to his service papers in Archway, James was born 26 July 1884, the son of Alexander and Sarah Campbell of Kelvin House, Kelso (but later, for receipt of his scroll, of Janefield Mosgiel and then in 1922 for his plaque, of 51 Harbour Terrace, Dunedin). He served in the Otago Mounted Rifles, and won his DCM the day he died, at Gallipoli. These are some of the commonest Scots names, which makes researching them difficult, but they are names that occur in my own family of Otago Campbells. I’m trying to establish who Alexander was descended from / related to. Any help would be much appreciated. _______________________ Stuart Park Kerikeri, New Zealand spark@xtra.co.nz The List Guidelines http://new-zealand-l.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NEW-ZEALAND-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ----- No virus found in this message. Here is how I achieved this using Legacy, with myself highlighted, in Charting I chose Ancestors Report then Upward for a chart that shows both my parents ancestors. Or just mother or father's to see just one line at a time. I am sure Family Tree Maker will have something similar. Carolyn
James McTurk McLean/Wilson. Thank you to those who replied to my query, including John Wilson. We have his birth and marriage details but we are still none the wiser, the search will go on. Moving house so sorry for the delay with the thanks. Regards, Charmaine Andresen. Charmaine, I see on one particular tree someone has his parents as Robert mclean and flora jamieson (interesting with that middle name as it features in other children’s names), do you have have John McLean/McTurk Wilson’s birth cert from scotland’s people and the census from Scotland, his arrival into NZ? Regards Jenelle McCarrick Townsville -------------- Charmaine, There is a James McLean Wilson in the Auckland cenotaph database, have you checked archways for his war record, have you checked CWGC, Boer War Sites, Australian sites. No it is any parents who were born in England and died in New Zealand. I am currently editing one for someone's great uncle and aunt who came to New Zealand. They just have to someone's parents. Heather, my grandmother died in 1929 at the Costley shelters, from TB. It was a kind of sanitorium - this sounds different from the case you've talked about. Was there more than one Costley home? I also found all the minute books at Archives Auckland. His name never shows on Archway though. if i remember correctly i was told to look in a bank of little drawers where i found his name on a card, which had page numbers to search for in the minute books. The Dunedin Family History Group is publishing a book on the lives of English born parents. The criteria is that the articles must involve any parents born in England who immigrated and died in New Zealand. The book is to be published in September 2014. This is the last in the series of books - Scottish Mother, Scottish Father and Irish Parents. We are able to accept submissions in any format - i.e. hardcopy, via an email attachment or on CD. Submissions can be in almost any Windows compatible format. The article can be as small or as large as needed but for space we have set the limit as 20,000 words (on average 750 words are usually 1 page so this allows a maximum of 26 pages). Graphics, photographs and maps can be in addition to the 20,000 words. Photographs, graphics and maps help enhance an article. All pictures should be 300 dpi (dots per inch) and high quality. The published size is usually about a column width (83mm) by the relative height of the picture which also needs a caption. All photographs must be sourced i.e. JOE BLOGGS PERSONAL COLLECTION or PRINTED WITH PERMISSION OF THE HOCKEN LIBRARY COLLECTIONS, DUNEDIN. All articles must be received by the 31 July 2014. Entries which arrive after this date may not be able to be included in the final publication. All articles accepted for submission provides the author with a 10% discount on the final cost of purchasing the book. Any questions please contact dfhg@xtra.co.nz or write to 28 Milburn Street, Dunedin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Heather and Kevin Bray 28 Milburn Street Corstorphine Dunedin 9012 New Zealand kandh.bray@xtra.co.nz ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
