Is there someone who is going to Archives in Wellington who could check the marriage on 17 April 1862 of Mary Jane GRAINGER and Joseph SMITH please? In particular the information I have to date (which I am doubtful of) is that Mary Jane would have been aged 16 years and 6 weeks so therefore should have required permission to marry as a minor. A photo or transcription of the record would be greatly appreciated thank you. The NZ DIA record for the above marriage is 1867/7468 Mary Jane GRAINGER Joseph SMITH.

Happily, Gail, I 100% agree that you can disagree with my opinion... About 21 years ago I searched back to the 16th Century and found that my maternal HUBBARD family moved around and within Suffolk and Essex, whilst I found a vast number within the wider area of these two counties I haven't been able to make a connection to ALL of them during that time, but what would I know as I have little idea as to their travels... If I have missed any during the last 2 decades of research, then maybe they weren't registered or weren't enumerated on census day. My immediate HUBBARD ancestor arrived in NZ in 1855. I have found at least 4 families of HUBBARD and DOIDGE in NZ that I haven't made a connection to... Yet. Although one of the NZ DOIDGE tell me "You wouldn't be related to me, MY ancestors come from Bere Ferrers in Devon"... I replied... "Mine too"... But still can't find a connection. Hilton This answer is assuming you refer to the Chartered Accountant of Timaru, an absolutely remarkable man (yes, he is well known to me) beloved by many! Additionally, please be aware that none of the following has been personally researched by me and this is one of my "many tasks" to be accomplished! But perhaps you will now beat me to it - it would certainly be a bonus in my book. He was born into a working class family on 23 March 1928 in Dunedin to father (later renowned for harshness and drunkenness), Edward and mother Margaret . (For the first 15 years or so, the rental accommodation they had, provided no running water or similar amenities we take for granted today). They were utterly impoverished and so I suspect the "drunkenness" etc. came from a physical WW1 injury and the advent of the hopelessness suffered by so many during the 1930s depression. Yet, he was classed as a hard worker. His father's great grandparents were Edward and Maria Hubbard who emigrated (1873) from Waltham Abbey (North London) and settled in Akaroa as a sawmiller. Their son, James (Allan's grandfather) set up a dry-cleaning business in Dunedin, but he appears to have spent his money on alcohol. Allan's father, Edward, was born in 1897 and was a plumber by trade. Edward and Margaret had 5 children, Allan the oldest, 3 sisters and the 5th, a boy. Happy researching. Do you wish anything on his mother's family? Hi I have FTM 2010, it might depend on your version. If you then start with yourself as the highlighted individual go to Publish>collection>charts>vertical pedigree chart and select how many generations you have got, you should get your ancestors. However if you just want a single line from ancestor 'A' to yourself, set yourself as the 'home person', then go to your oldest ancestor and highlight them, select Publish>charts> relationship chart and you should get the single line cheers Cynthia -----Original Message----- From: Diane McNair Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2014 11:58 AM To: NEW-ZEALAND@rootsweb.com Subject: [nz] Single line descendant chart I have the Family Tree Maker program and would like to know how to make a chart, from earliest ancestor, born abt 1645, down to self, born 1938, without printing other siblings, and their sub-branches/twigs, in each generation .
