Would appreciate hearing from any one who knows this family on both sides of the Tasman. Have run into some brick walls. Robert Joseph WALSH b 1826 Eng- d. ??? married 1854 Mary Catherine CARRUTHERS b. 1834 Eng - d. 1911 Aust Children: Joseph Edward b. 1856 NZ - d. 1870 NZ Maria Jane b. 1858 NZ - d ?? Francis John 1860 NZ - d. 1904 Aust James b. 1862 NZ - d. 1935 Aust Catherine b. 1863 NZ - d ?? Elizabeth Eleanor b. 1865 NZ - d. ?? Alexander Frederick b. 1870 NZ - d. 1889 Aust John Joseph (twin) b. 1872 NZ - d. ?? Francis Joseph (twin) 1872 NZ - d. 1933 Aust Alfred Joseph b. ?? - d. 1913 Aust When Mary Catherine died in 1911 she left three sons and a daughter, the rest had passed away. Between the twins birth and Alfred they moved to Australia, Melbourne I think first because a couple of children died there before moving up to Paramatta Sydney. I don't seem to able to find when or where they left NZ and arrived in Australia. Think I am also missing another couple of children. Any help would be much appreciated. Pam

You'll probably be disappointed : the only other person named is her late husband, James, of Rangiora. Hope it helps Graham Hoult Kirwee
Calvin I missed your original post, but just as well, as thanks to Graham's work, I know I have a connection to James and Annie Thompson. James Thompson of Rangiora, whom I have as having died before 1907, was the father of Leslie James Thompson (1880-1971) who married my maternal great aunt Nancy/Annie Dale (1880-1967). Our branch of the Dale family lost touch with my great aunt's family when Lucy, a daughter of Leslie James and Annie, died in 2007. If there is a connection, please contact me off list. On this special day in NZ (ANZAC Day) here is a true story regarding a soldier leaving behind a mystery finally unravelled by the use of DNA. (I hasten to add it is not an ANZAC story, but it could apply anywhere). http://www.pamplinmedia.com/nbg/142-news/218078-78521-finding-family-using-science Gail Riddell
Forgot to say that Carita and Maggie might not have been sisters if Carita was in fact Carita Mary MALLOY born 1890 and died 1919 age 29 who was definitely at Reefton Peter -----Original Message----- From: Peter Dillon Sent: Thursday, April 24, 2014 8:26 PM To: New Zealand Rootsweb Subject: Reefton - BOYLE Does anyone know anything about relevant people called BOYLE in the Reefton area ? I'm trying to find out about Carita and Maggie BOYLE who I think were sisters at Reefton. They appear in a superb photo of five young women very fashionably dressed up to the nines seated on grassy ground at the Strand, Reefton, 1909. The five are named on the back as Harriet, Carita, Maggie, Daisy and Kathleen. Harriet is Harriet FURNESS born 1889 (my grandmother) and Daisy is her sister Margaret Annie FURNESS born 1887 (always known as Daisy). Maggie and Carita match a pair of woman in another photo sent to Daisy by Carita. I have no idea about Kathleen. Harriet & Daisy were daughters of Sam FURNESS & Annie MAHONY. Annie MAHONY was the sister of Elizabeth MAHONY who married Stewart MONTEITH the brewer at Reefton. Stewart & Elizabeth MONTEITH had seven issue one of whom was Margaret Frances Marion (Marion) MONTEITH who married Gerald James Joseph BOYLE (no issue I am told). I have wondered if the sisters Carita & Maggie were related to Gerald BOYLE. Peter

Hi, Article in Marlborough Express dated 24/04/2014: "The names and stories of those who served in World War I from the Nelson Tasman region have been immortalised in the digital world for all to read. The Nelson Provincial Museum yesterday launched a new database holding the stories of 2500 men and women who served in any capacity during the war." Read full article: http://www.stuff.co.nz/marlborough-express/news/9974743/War-vets-live-on-in-database Nelson Provincial Museum website introduces the WW1 Service Database: "The WW1 Service Database is now live on the Museum's website. The database lists the names of more than 2500 men and women from the region who served during the First World War. The database is the end product of many years work by regional researchers and genealogists and includes nurses, soldiers, Padres, and those men and women who served with Australian forces, the Royal Navy and the flying services of England." Link to Nelson Provincial Museum: http://www.nelsonmuseum.co.nz/ And they want feedback, too. Do you know of a family member from the Nelson-Tasman region whose name is missing from this list of those who served in WW1? If so, contact them at: http://www.nelsonmuseum.co.nz/ww100/Feedback.aspx Cheers, Susan
