    3. Hi Angela, Have you checked the "New Zealand Gazette" to see if he was mentioned as a Railways employee? Many government department workers were mentioned there at some stage of their working lives. There's a hard-disk (ie, searchable) copy at the New Zealand Society of Genealogists' library (http://genealogy.org.nz/). Anyone can visit there, or if you are a member you could ask the free Research Service if they would look it up for you. I'm sure there are other copies around the country in other libraries, too. Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Angela Reed said the following on 1/05/2014 04:13: > My Grandfather, Alfred O. 3. if anyone is interested, I have the copy of this book, Tokomaru School and District Centenary 1893-1993. oh my its been worth its weight in gold for me since finding it for sale on Trademe! So many names I recognise, Lankshear, so have emailed Ron about it... It has pages of the children attending Tokomaru school from year dot... also WW1 One name I keep coming up in the book is LIGGINS.. Has photographs of WW1 soldiers from the district.also listed WW2 Roll of Honour. Waghorn is another name, as we had this name at Clareville Cemetery years ago.. Wilton.. I was after this particular book for a very good reason, has in it exactly what I was hoping for, to do with a research I was helping with over the years. omg! Now if this person attended the school, and what she told me where she was in that year.. her story was pure fiction, dream on lady! But several of us had to research her to prove she was completely incorrect. Names of pupils are not alphabetical, just means going through pages and pages to see if he/she is listed and photograph is also there.. -- Adele Pentony-Graham Carterton Cemetery Clareville Researcher Carterton Researcher. and Featherston. 2. Glennis Austin
    3. Hi List Would anyone happen to have this music in their collection and be prepared to scan/photograph a copy for me please? According to the WorldCat https://www.worldcat.org/ it is a serio comic song for voice and piano. It was written in 1874 by Oswald Allen and arranged by John Guest. "Willie's such a tease" is the chorus, but it may also be named by its first line "Of all the tiresome men I know". A book being written about my great-great-grandparent's (Henry and Mary Ann SMITH (nee SWAN)) arrival in NZ in 1874 contains a reference to my great-grandmother planning to sing this at a concert in 1885, but the Reverend's wife advised her not to! So I am rather curious as to the words in this song, to be shared with the others involved in the writing of this book. Many thanks Kind regards Glennis

    1. Re: [nz] e-KIT Contact re Archives NZ
    2. John Wilson
    3. Hi All: Re the new format digitised WWI military personnel files at Archives NZ the Hon Peter Dunne replied (10 April) to my complaint about the new online WWI personnel files at Archives being difficult to access, saying that they want to ensure that the 160,000+ records are are avaliable online by the end of 2014 (now not by the centenary in August!) but that they are working on the issue of not working with all browsers (to be resolved shortly) and on "improving the functionality". He pointed out that for older records where a single multipage PDF file was created, it can still be accessed by clicking on the Preservation Master and going to the Derivative Copy option. The NZDF Archives are transferring files of WWI soldiers who served after WWI (ie 1921+) to Archives NZ. About 12,000 of 16,000 are already done and indexed on Archway (though that means more to scan!). So if you have not found a WWI file at Archives in the past, try again! PS: have seen some of the interesting Secret/Confidential files from WWI (about 500 in AAYS Series 8647), saying why some pillars of society eg doctors and ministers fell short or were not accepted. A doctor not suitable because of age (47) and also drug & alcohol problems, a chaplain who was returned early from Samoa (the Bishop of Auckland said he was an adventurer and "cad"), and a chaplain at Featherston Camp who was offered the option of resigning or being court-martialled for sobriety (or lack of?) and bringing liquor into the camp. Also some routine reports. Yours, John Wilson > The method suggest only works for the files they digitised up to about 6 > weeks ago. > > They now seem to be rushing to get the files all done and that download > method does not seem to work now (for newly digitised files). >
