Hi Angie As others have said, click "view computer-generated text" option, then copy and paste the bit of text you want - then clean it up. If the OCR is not a very good rendition it is often quicker to start from scratch and copy type. I often format the article to show how it originally appeared to give a visual indication of it's origin - and make it look 'authentic'. One can also take a screen shot of the article and paste it into your program. On a Mac, simply press [Command Shift 4] keys together, select as much of text/article that you want to copy, and click. Then go to Finder, and the shot should show at the top as (eg) Screen shot 2014-04-27 at 8.24.14 PM.png You can open it in Preview or any other photo program, and rename the file in the usual way. PC users have their own way of doing screen shots. The downside of a screen shot is that the text of the article would not be computer searchable. Hope this helps Graham NZSG# 12879 -----Original Message----- From: Angie Barnett Sent: Thursday, May 08, 2014 9:40 AM To: NEW-ZEALAND@rootsweb.com Subject: [nz] Papers Past Hello All Can you please help me to learn how to copy Papers Past page into another program, like FTM? One option is to use the Snipping Tool in Windows. Very simple. From: new-zealand-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:new-zealand-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of new-zealand-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, 9 May 2014 8:35 a.m. To: new-zealand@rootsweb.com Subject: NEW-ZEALAND Digest, Vol 9, Issue 98

I am trying to download the record for Henry Gill McKenzie who was a cousin, so having found the record I click on ‘view or download digitized record’ then I get to a page that says Digitised Record McKENZIE, Henry Gill - WW1 6/1915 - Army but when I click on his name it takes me to another page and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Regards Jan Sent from Windows Mail

Many thanks to you all. At last I can now do it........ *Angie *
when you have the article up, click the "view computer-generated text" option. You can cut and paste that to wherever you like. Be aware that there could be considerable cleaning up work to do with the text as the scans of the articles that the OCR software has to deal with are often of very poor quality for scanning, or the original type on the page was pretty bad to begin with. peter -----Original Message----- From: Angie Barnett Sent: Thursday, May 08, 2014 9:40 AM To: NEW-ZEALAND@rootsweb.com Subject: [nz] Papers Past Hello All Can you please help me to learn how to copy Papers Past page into another program, like FTM? Hi Angie, When you are viewing an article on Papers Past you should see a small heading just above the article "View computer-generated text". If you click on that heading the text "read" by the computer OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software will display. You can select that text with your mouse then copy it and paste it into a note in your FTM software or a Word document etc. Note that OCR is not perfect, and depending on the quality of the scanned article and the accuracy of the text generated you may have to make corrections. There is also a set of Maori Land Court Minute Books at Waikato University Library for public access... They hold the 'books' from the seven districts on Microfilm and hard-bound photocopies [approx A3 size] "...The Maori Land Court Minute Books index provides easy and quick access to over 1100 minute books between 1865 and 1910, from the Taitokerau [Greater Whangarei area], Waikato-Maniapoto [Greater Hamilton area], Tairawhiti [Greater Gisborne area], Waiariki [Greater Rotorua area], Aotea [Taranaki/Whanganui], Takitimu [Hawkes Bay/Wairarapa] and Waipounamu [South Island] Maori Land Court Districts..." Hi, A question for Christchurch folk from one who doesn't live there. Where is it possible to see the "Roll of Honour" for the Christchurch service personnel who died in WW1? Are these people listed on panels at the Bridge of Remembrance, or where? And is there an online site where it is possible to view the list of names, please? Thanks, Susan Wilson
Finally achieved something I have wanted to see for some time, BNZ Museum and on the way out the Roll of Honour, had to photograph where Claude Montefiore Samuel name was on WW1 plaque for family in Auckland, his father was Edward Samuel .. Head at Early Carterton School. 1880. I belong to a Bus Tour, so door to door service! We went on to Government House. Lovely place to learn more about and see inside.. Adele
Hi Kae & all: Re Archives NZ at Wellington, they have "a number of" records from the Taranaki Land District as well as the Wellington Land District in the LINZ Register Room. Archives NZ at Wellington (and probably Auckland) have Maori Land Court Minute Books (MB) from the seven districts on microfilm, and also bays and bays of "Repro" copies in folders. Info Sheet No 5 on the MB says that the best access is via a database for the MB 1865-1910 created by Auckland University and avaliable in Archives NZ offices, and there is also an Archives NZ Database/Index avaliable in paper and digital versions. I’m just wondering if anyone has got this running in Windows 8.1. My biggest success at the moment is to set compatibility to Vista and search from the disc rather than downloading the data. But even now that has seized up and is “Not Responding”. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks Bryan Chch.

Thanks to everyone who replied to this request, and who were able to find a couple of the missing ones. The one I thought I had as CM RICHARDSON is not actually him. He survived and came home. There were three Richardson families in the area, and so has to be connected to one of those. He is on the plaque as just C Richardson. Still have not found anything further to confirm that Bert Stevens is Albert Milton Stevens, but will keep digging.
