    3. Hi Paul If you would like to put into Ancestry 1901 Census the following info. George THOMAS born 1857 in London (wife Sarah) you should pick up Jane Amelia, Amy R and John Bromley. George Thomas is living at 3 Hamfrith Road. 1. [nz] Alfred Augustus Matthews & family, Onehunga.
    2. F97Russell .
    3. Hello All, I was wandering down a genealogical branch of the family tree that starts with my Great (x5) grandfather Henry Matthews, when several generations down the line I came across Alfred Augustus Matthews (1872~1928), who emigrated with his wife Elizabeth and two children, Maude Ivy & Alfred Augustus, sailing on the 'Ormuz' from London to Sydney on 13 May 1898. It seems they didn't like Oz and carried on to New Zealand. I'm Albert's 3rd cousin 3 times removed. Perhaps not a spectacularly close relation, but we share the same DNA anyway, which is good enough for me. Sadly, the young Alfred Augustus died in 1906. Maude Ivy Matthews (1893~1984). Married David Jack Cooper 1926. Alfred & Elizabeth had at least three more children in New Zealand: Victor Reginald Edmund Matthews (1904~1966). Married Nancy May Somervell 1935; Venie Augusta Matthews (1906~1978). Married Reginald John Bawden 1934; Hector Ralph Matthews (1908~1993). Married Rona Olive Smith 1936. I've found that Alfred, Elizabeth, plus Alfred Jr are buried in Waikaraka Cemetery, Onehunga. So what I would like please, if anyone is going that way, is a couple of photos of the grave and cemetery if possible. >From the Auckland City website, their grave details are: Name MATTHEWS, ALFRED AUGUSTUS Details M: Died 24-11-1928: Aged 57: Place Waikaraka Location Area 3 Block 1 Lot No 12 Remarks transcribed inscription reads " In loving memory of Alfred Augustus beloved husband of E A Matthews died 24 Nov 1928 aged 57 yrs Also Alfred Augustus (Gus) beloved eldest son of the above died 15 Mar 1906 aged 9 yrs Also Elizabeth Ann beloved wife of the above died 2 Aug 1948 aged 78 yrs" Also, if anyone knows members of any of the above families, it would be great to get in touch. Thanks, Phil Curtis p.s. if any of the above seems familiar, other versions of this are also on the 'New Zealand History and Genealogy' Facebook page and Rootsweb > Oceania > New Zealand; I'm just trying to cover all bases!

    3. I have a photo of seven women on the fore deck of the Manuwai just prior to sailing down river to the Health Camp at Port Waikato. My mother (Enid Barrett) is one of the five younger women who are probably in their late teens or early twenties. There are two older women present. My understanding is that the Health Camp was largely run by Hilda Ross who became a Member of Parliament and was later knighted. I have often wondered if she might be one of the two older women in the photo? Would any lister like to have a look and offer an opinion. Murray Reid Tuakau.
