Hello: I have a family by the name of CASNER. There is the father, John Casner, and the son, John Lewis Casner. They are found in Donley County, TX on the 1870 census, in Hall County, TX on the 1880 census, in Baylor County, TX in 1881, then in Haskell County, TX from 1881 through June 13, 1902. In 1899 they are both tried for their part in the killing of the grown stepson of the elder John Casner. The second wife of the elder John Casner (Jane Pitner Casner) dies 5-30-1898 in Haskell County, TX. Pitner or Pittner was the name of her first husband. It is her son who is killed by John and John Lewis Casner in a gunfight. Both John and John Lewis appeal their conviction and win the appeal. The last official record found of John and John Lewis is 6-12-1902 in Haskell County, TX when they are at the courthouse and signed papers selling the last of their range land. The family of John Lewis Casner are next found in Lincoln Co., NM. His wive is on the 1910 NM Lincoln Co., Census. 1906 one of the daughters marries, place unknown; first child born early 1907, Lincoln Co.,NM 12-27-1907 one of the daughters marries at Arrollo, Lincoln Co., NM 2-25-1908 one of the sons marries in Meek, Lincoln Co., NM 10-12-1909 the wife of John Lewis Casner remarries in Carrizozo, Lincoln Co., NM. 1-11-1910 another of the sons marries in Clovis, Curry Co., NM 1-25-1915 another daughter marries at Arabella, NM 5-4-1917 another son marries in Carrizozo, Lincoln Co., NM John Lewis Casner is said to have died in 1-1903 on the 'Canadian River' while hunting quail to feed his very large family. Nothing is ever said when/where the elder John Casner may have died. My thinking is that both the elder John Canser and John Lewis Casner died while migrating from TX to NM. The only Canadian River of which I am aware is in Oklahoma but I have found no record of them in OK. Would appreciate suggestions on where I might find information on: -where the elder John Casner and John Lewis Casner may have died -where the family may have been in 1906 when the first daughter married I have personally searched the records in Curry, Lincoln, Chaves, Roosevelt Counties NM without success for marriages records. While I did find several marriage records, I did not find one for the daughter who married in 1906 (by the way she died in 1911 supposedly near Arabella with the birth of her only daughter) Her married name was Shipp or Knibbe. I did check with the county offices on death records but without success. Did NM keep death records for tht period of time? Where would these most likely be found? Is there anyone on this list who might have access to the Genealogical/Historical Society records in Carrizozo who could do a check for me? Suggestions, please.
