    1. [NEW-MEXICO] Let Me Tell You A Story
    2. Elizabeth E. Freeman
    3. Hello List: I am endeavoring to locate a family that wandered NM after 6-1902. Please be patient with me for posting in this fashion; however, two living descendants who are cousins (one who is terminally ill, the other on up in age) would like to know the final resting place of their grandfather and great grandfather before they themselves are laid to rest. I am endeavoring to assist them. The story is this: John CASNER (b. circa 1822 MO/IA) was twice widowed. He is on the 1900 TX census. I have been unsuccessful in finding him on the 1910 census (in any state). He was about 79 years of age in 1900. John Louis/Lou/Lewis/Lew/Luke CASNER (b.1-4-1851 Polk Co., IA) is often referred to as being born in Ranier, OR - but this has proved to be not true; he was born in IA where his mother died giving birth to his younger brother. John Lewis CASNER is said to have died in NM in 1-1903 on the banks of a river of a heart attack while hunting pheasant and quail to feed his very large family. I also am searching for the marriage date/place of Mary Ivan Bell 'Fran' CASNER (b.1890 TX) who married William S. 'Bert' Shipp probably in 1906. Bert's last name is sometimes spelled Knibbe; he is buried under Knibbe. Their first child was born 7-1907 so they would have been married in 1906. She died in 1911 neary Arabella, NM at the birth of their only daughter. Living descendants say she was only 15-16 at the time she married. Mary is one of the daughters of John Lewis Casner mentioned above. I am also searching for the death/cemetery record of Mary. I am also searching for the marriage date/place of Samuel Jefferson CASNER (b.8-10-1899 TX) who married Mildred Violet Harris. He is one of the sons of John Lewis Casner mentioned above. I have personally searched marriage records of Curry, Lincoln, Chaves, Roosevelt counties when I was driving through NM just this fall. I did find marriage records of the rest of their brothers and sisters, and the second marriage of their mother, but none for these two. FACTS: 6-1902 John and John Lewis CASNER are at the courthouse in Haskell Co., TX where they signed papers to sell the rest of their rangeland; the sale of the land was to pay for attornies who had defended them in the trials and appeals of their part of a killing in TX. The family migrates to NM. John and John Lewis lived in NM between 1870 and 1877. 12-27-1907 Claudia Casner married Henry Calvin McFarland in Arrollo Scco, Lincoln Co. 2-26-1908 Ep Casner married Lilly Ellen Ferris at Meek,Lincoln County. 10-12-1907 Becky Clemmie Casner (wife/widow of John Lewis) married George Sidwell at Carizzo, Lincoln County. 1-11-1910 Frank marrie Fannie Trammel in Clovis, Curry County 1-25-1915 Ora Dee married Hiram Frank 'Shorty' Dockray in Arabella, Lincoln County. 5-4-1917 Jessee marrie Lee Ella Harris in Carizzo, Lincoln County Where one family member is found, several of the family members have been found-they somewhat travel in a group. The family, at various times, is found in Silver City, Hatch, Roswell, San Antonio, Farmington, Carizzo, Arabella, Capatain, Meek, in the area west from Fort Elliott, TX. As you can see, they really traveled the state. The elder John Casner always had a herd of horses with him. I have sent queries to the NM Vital Records to see if they have a record of the death of John and John Lewis Casner. I haven't heard back from them yet; probably will be some time. I guess I'm asking of anyone who has access to death/cemetery records and marriage records for ANY county in NM, if they would check to see if a record of the four CASNER people above mightr be found. I would so love to be able to give information to the two Casner Cousins to help ease their concerns. Liz Freeman
