I had a couple of other ideas over the weekend. There is a Navajo Nation bookstore in Window Rock, also-they have all sorts of stuff on traders, history, etc. Depending on whom the translations were done for, this might be an opportunity to find out more about your relative, and surely a lot more about the Navajos. I would recommend visiting the Hubbell Trading Post (I believe it is in or around Ganado,AZ, about 60 mi W of Gallup) and is one of the oldest and largest, I think it is a NATIONAL Historic Site. They also have books as well as the best rug room on the planet. If you are in the market for rugs, Crownpoint, NM (20mi E, then 20 mi N of Gallup on I 40) has an auction every 4-6 weeks with excellent prices. You can pick up a NM Magazine, it always has the schedule. If you need assistance, write or call me at 505-281-3988. I lived in Gallup for 2 years, am a native New Mexican, and have worked with all the tribes for 15 years. I'll try to point you in the right direction, to the best of my knowledge. Are you coming to Albuquerque? If so, I have some other "must see" ideas along the way.
