Hello List: I am searching for the final resting place of John Lewis CASNER who died 1-1903 in NM, but place unknown. I have talked with serveral elderly descendants of this person and the only thing alike in the story of his death is that he "died on the banks of a river of a heart attack while hunting quial and pheasant to feed his large family". In talking with the descendants, one provided me with the following information regarding San Marcial, in Socorro County that she had copied several years ago but failed to make note of her source. "San Marcial, Socorro County, was located three miles east of U.S. 85 and about 35 miles south of Socorro. San Marcial was destroyed by flood from the Rio Grande River in 1866 and was reestablished on higher ground, but in 1929 it was again destroyed by flood and was never rebuilt. The old Anglo Cemetery remains standing, but has been sadly neglected." My questions: (1) Does anyone on this list know if the "old Anglo Cemetery" has been inventoried/canvassed and who would have these records. (2) Is there a place that a person could write to for checking records of that particular cemetery? Thank you for any information. Liz Freeman In OK!
