My grandfather was in the NM pen also. I found several documents relating to him in the governor's papers at the New Mexico State Library. He was in much earlier - 1902. Try contacting the NMSU library or search for the NM State Archives online or by telephone. The new penitentiary is built on a different site. I drove there one day several years ago. They don't take kindly to casual visitors seeking genealogical info! Good luck.
