This came to me from another list and I would like to share it...For the Archives!! I just tried a site that I had not been on before and I think that some of you might well be interested in it as well. It is a site of the Societat Catalana de Genealogia, Heràldica, Sigil·lografia i Vexil·lologia (SCGHSV) Their e-mail address is scghsv@tinet.fut.es and the web address is http://www.fut.es/~scghsv. On reaching their web site you can link through a stylized "g" to Enello com (also reachable at www.elanillo.com) where you will find listings of many sites covering names (appelidos). Everything is in Spanish although some of the headings are translated into English as well. once at the ENELLO COM site, try HERALDICO. They list about 5 different sites, try the next to last of these and you will be able to see full color pictures of many of the family arms of Spain. They also had a listing of sites having Spanish genealogical data including a fair number of ones covering Latin American areas. Another site which you might try is CIDE which is an annotated index of the Spanish Archives which you can screen by Surname, or by location, or several other ways. This one is also in Spanish but if you find entries that you want to translate you can copy them to your favorite translatation program and get the list of what the item is. You will get items on your names when your person had anything to do with the action. the URL is http://www.mcu.es/bases/spa/carc/CARC.html. Rose NC Here is My Ancestry Line! Hello All, Just wanted to let you know there is a new list for anyone researching in North Texas. No specific counties are specified and anyone researching family in North Texas is welcome and encouraged to post to this mailing list. Many of our ancestors entered Texas through the Northern Counties and moved to nearby land. As the counties were being formed and borders were changing it is often difficult to research or find the appropriate county. Many of these regional lists have been very successful in helping people connect. I urge all researchers who are working in this region to subscribe to this list....we can all benefit from it. To subscribe to the list: (It is just as it is with all the others at Rootsweb.) Send an e-mail to: NORTH-TX-L-request@rootsweb.com for the list mode. NORTH-TX-D-request@rootsweb.com for the digest mode. Type subscribe into the body of the message Post your message to: NORTH-TX-L@rootsweb.com or Go to the utilities web page at: http://www.interdata.com/tx/ Welcome aboard! Jan
Jan, how far west would you consider North Texas? Is North Texas in the Dallas Region or up in the panhandle? I manage the West Texas mailing list, so that's why I wanted to know. Duston Brooks
For the Archives: This was a very good site if your seaching for records on line...It has alot of states and alot of good information..I found this on another list! http://www.idreamof.com/newdata.html
Looking for information re Leroy WRIGHT, son of Barrett (Bud) and Janey WRIGHT. Born after 1920 in Oklahoma, possibly grew up in Albuquerque, NM. Family members recall that he might have gone into the military (Marines?), met a girl from Michigan who he married and settled in Michigan, working for Michigan State Police (unknown town/county). If anyone went to school with him, please let me know. Would also like to know if there is a Michigan State Police Association or something similar that I might contact. Thank you Julia

This came from another list... "LOPEZ mailing list" At Las Porciones Society meeting held on Monday, June 19 Rene Escobar from Pharr gave a report on newly available transcribed church baptism, marriage, and death records from Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico. After talking with both Escobar and Dennis Carter, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Family History Center in McAllen, I would like to share the following information with you. [Comments, additions or corrections to me are encouraged.] 1. The original records from the church in Mier are located in the old church in Mier - safely stored and overseen by the parish priest. However, because of their age and use over the years (in combination with the natural deterioration of the paper on which they are recorded, previous careless handling or even theft) some of these original records (sections, pages or portions of pages) have been lost with time. 2. At some point an unknown to me historian transcribed these records (baptisms, marriages and deaths). [Note that through transcribing, errors may be made when reading and writing down the information contained within the original records.] After his death, these transcriptions [I have been told] were given by the historian's widow to Israel Cavazos Garza of Monterrey. Cavazos Garza lent them to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for microfilming in 1978. Copies of this microfilm is available through LDS Family History Centers throughout the world. 3. Using the microfilm copies of Israel Cavazos Garza's transcriptions (number 2 above) Martha Gonzalez Ramirez, with the permission of Israel Cavazos Garza, transcribed marriages from 1767 through 1805 and published them as... AUTHOR: Cavazos Garza, Israel. TITLE: First book of Mier marriages = libro primero de matrimonios de Mier : 1767-1805 PUBLISHER: M. Magalí González, c1988. No further volumes were published. 4. In 1926 Luis Garcia, grandfather of Joe McDonald (McAllen), also transcribed the same records: Baptisms: 1767-1874 1,464 pages Baptisms: 1874-1888 199 pages Marriages: 1767-1875 319 pages Deaths: 1767-1867 561 pages Total of 2,535 pages Xeroxographic copies of Luis Garcia's transcription (a total of 2,535 legal sized pages) were made by Dennis Carter, Family History Center, LDS in McAllen. Copies of the Luis Garcia transcription of these Mier records may be consulted at the Family History Center in McAllen. Also, these photocopies are soon to be microfilmed by the LDS Church and will be available to researchers through Family History Centers world-wide. ***** ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Through various investigations undertaken by Carter and Rene Escobar, it has been determined that the transcription undertaken by Garcia are, in general, superior to those owned by Cavazos Garza because: Garcia's transcription was undertaken in 1926, probably at an earlier time that the transcription as owned by Cavazos Garza, hence... Some pages or portions of pages MAY have existed in 1926 which did NOT exist when the Cavazos Garza transcription was made. Hence, the Garcia transcription is probably more complete. It appears that Garcia undertook, in general, a more careful transcription than that undertaken to produce the Cavazos Garza copy. [Escobar has verified this by comparing the Cavazos Garza copy against the Garcia copy and then comparing what was found against the original church records in Mier.] Escobar, through his own personal research when undertaking research for his book on the Saenz family, also noted that Garcia, for some unknown reason, did NOT record parent's names within the marriage records from 1824 through 1842. The Cavazos Garza transcription DOES include parent's names as do the original church records. [Thanks to both Rene Escobar and Dennis Carter for both providing me with requested information as well as to both of them for proofing this document prior to it being shared with you.]
Thank you,for your time and I do appreciate it! I will try and find the records to Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Albuquerque that start in 1903 and look and see if they are in there..again...Thank you! Sincerely, Rose NC
RoseE <RAbeyta@webtv.net> Had asked Sent: Thursday, June 22, 2000 5:17 AM Subject: Marriage Look-up! "< I was wondering if not asking to much,if you can locate this marriage for me...my grandparents: Desiderio ABEYTA b. 1875 (In Albuq.NM) Francisca SANCHEZ b.1888 (in Albuq.NM) I have found them in the censes with 9 children, first child.Clemente being born 1905..so this marrage had to take place sometime before that date... >" Hi, I have in town the index to the San Felipe Catholic Church in Albuquerque at the local LDS FHC. Unfortunately the index film only goes only to 1903 and I did not find the marriage listed in the period 1887-1903. Films of the actual marriage records go up 1956. (I have the one going up to 1855 in town.) Starting in 1903 there are also records for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Albuquerque available. The index for the San Felipe Church does not show the baptisms for either Desiderio or Francisca. Jim Scofield

Hello List: I'm planning a trip to NM this summer to visit my sister. While there I want to stop at some of the genealogy libraries. After searching the net, it appears there are three in Alburquerque and three in Santa Fe that would be worth my while. Some of the things I want to search are; (1) The 1910 and 1920 NM census records. (2) Cemetery Books for Lincoln County, NM (and other counties that may have been included in Lincoln County before its present day size. (3) Newspapers for the time frame 1870-1905 (3) Specifically books covering CA and NV (4) Books covering a number of other states. >From my experience in other states, my guess would be that the NM Records Center and Archives in Santa FE would be the most likely place to find the widest variety of these. Would like to hear comments from those on the list who may have been to some of these libraries. Also, can anyone tell me if Lincoln County has a gen. society/library. Have been unsuccessful in locating on on the net. Liz Freeman In OK!
