Hello List: I would like to thank everyone who responded to my request for possible migration routes from Haskell Co., TX to Lincoln Co., NM. Now I can narrow my search down to a smaller number of counties. Thanks again everyone. Liz Freeman

Hello All: Could someone on this list advise me of a possible migration route circa 1900 from TX to NM. I have a family that was in Haskell County, TX in 6-1902; they then appear on the 1910 census in Lincoln County, NM. I have located several marriage records of the children in Lincoln County between 1905-1910. The family had a fairly large herd of horses and possibly a large herd of sheep (although it is possible the sheep had been sold before they moved to NM). I have studied maps of TX and NM (unfortunately I do not have any for 1900-1910) in an effort determine what might have been the migration route. One daughter was married circa 1906 between Haskell County, TX and Lincoln County, NM prior to the 1910 census. The grandfather died somewhere along the way. It appears I need to search several counties, but first I would like some input as to a possible migration route. Any information or thoughts would be so appreciated. Liz Freeman
Hi Elizabeth. I don't know if this will help you or not, but my family, also cattle folk, lived in Lampasa, Gonzales & Hamilton TX. They then went to Nm, mostly the Lincoln Co, NM area. Due to water shortages, some of my family then went on to Pima/Ft. Huachuca, AZ area. Family names: McFARLAND, BARTELL, HENRY, O'NEAL. Hope that helps. Blessings, Donna MAY-CRETE "Elizabeth E. Yes, the "Y " means " and" and the two last name are the names of the surname and married name of the lady in question. Sandy. Since it was not a law until 1914 to register birth, many did not send this info in until later, thus delayed records. phhgene@earthlink.net > > > > ============================== > >
Hi, Rose- You have probably gotten many answers to your inquiry but I thought I would answer you in case you hadn't. The "y" means simply "and" in Spanish and the compound names come from the tradition of children taking the name of their Father and Mother. Many times as generations passed, the compound name became "fixed"......like my Durán y Cháves surname........at one time there was a man named Durán who married a woman named Cháves and their children took on the combination. This is not a steadfast rule, of course....that would be too easy. I still find names listed by Cháves or Durán y Cháves. Many, many occasions occur where the female children took the name of their mother.......I had a woman named María Lopes who married my Teodoro Durán and I had a second wife name Ana María Manuela Lucero..........they turned out to be the same woman. She occasionally used her mother's surname, Lopes as her own.....and sometimes she is found using her Father's surname, Lucero. Crazy, but go with it and you will find your ancestors. Teofilo and Teofila are fairly common first names. Where is your Teofila Sánches y Cháves located and about what time period?? I have access to the AASF microfilms at the Special Collections Library in Albuquerque. Hi... Can anyone do a lookup for me in Las Vegas, NM? That would be San Miguel County. I am looking for records for my cousin, Frances Romero, born 8/19/32. Her mother's name was Sofia Romero. There may also be baptismal records at the Catholic Church in Las Vegas, either Our Lady of Sorrows or Immaculate Conception. I am specifically searching for the names of her godparents and her father's name. If anybody can help, I would be grateful! Thanks, Lucy
Has anyone ever heard of the name: Teofila Sanchez y Chavez The name of Teofila is rare as I cannot find any info on it..Is there a another name that would be a nick-name for this ? Can someone explain what the" y" means?..and why there are two surnames?..which do I follow as being a maiden name?.. This is the name that was found in a marriage to my Grandfather..Desiderio ABEYTA.. I was told he married Francisquita Sanchez. This is the only marriage that was found at the FHC on this microfilm..(which i ordered the Microfilm of marriages from Albuq.Bernilillo Co.NM..years=1900-1910) According to the microfilm.. ---------------------------- Desiderio ABEYTA age 27 Albuq. Hello List: I would like to thank every one who responded to my request for information regarding vital statistics in NM circa 1903. It looks like I'm off to the LDS FHL in the next day or two. Thank you everyone! Liz Freeman Could someone on the list advise me regarding a question on vital statistics for NM. Has anyone on the list had any success in obtaining a death certificate for individuals who died in early 1900s? How long should I expect to wait for a response once a request is submitted?
One more tip, Liz, just in case you aren't already a regular at the FHL. You can look up film numbers online. Here's the link to the Library Catalog online: http://familysearch.org/Search/searchcatalog.asp I've found that it's very time saving to be able to look up my films from the convenience of home, as my library time is somewhat limited. Hi, I had noted that the index to the New Mexico death certificates at the LDS Family History Library read: Index A-S ca 1899-1930 Film 1991645 Index T-Z 1889-1930 Index A-Z 1931-1940 Film 1991646 Only the city of Albuquerque is shown with death records as early as 1889. Valencia County starts in 1899; McKinley in 1904; then a number of counties in 1907. Death records for Lincoln county are listed as starting 1910. I actually do not recall seeing a record prior to 1920 in the index. The pre 1920 records are on ten rolls of film- so there must be some there. Jim Scofield
Hello: Could someone on the list advise me regarding a question on vital statistics for NM. I have an individual who is supposed to have died in January 1903 in NM, place unknown, but possibly Lincoln County. I know in some states prior to statehood, deaths were recorded in the county where the person died (if the death was recorded at all). In passing through Lincoln County recently, the county clerk advised me that if they had any death records they would have been forwarded to the Bureau of Vital Statistics for NM some years ago. Has anyone on the list had any success in obtaining a death certificate for individuals who died in early 1900s? How long should I expect to wait for a response once a request is submitted? Any information appreciated. Liz Freeman

Because I had NOT given the relationship, they were returning my check. (This had been for the 4 great-grandfather of my grand-son.) I subsequently obtained the index to the death certificates at my local Family History Center. Index A-S ca 1899-1930 Film 1991645 Index T-Z 1889-1930 Index A-Z 1931-1940 Film 1991646 I found two individuals of interest to me and obtained the appropriate film with the death certificates. Unfortunately, looking at the index, there seem to be very few people listed who died prior to 1920. A number of people of interest to me, who died in the given time span, are not listed in the index. I have had the index returned to Salt Lake City. Elizabeth~ While I don't have personal experience ordering pre-1900 death rec. from NM Vital Statistics, I'd thought I'd share the following info from my files: NM Vital Statistics has death records from 1920 to date, and "delayed" records from 1880. I'm not exactly sure what "delayed" records are, but I believe these may be records filed with the state sometime after the event, in order to establish date of demise for some other purpose. I suppose you've already tried checking church records? Also, there was a gentleman, Jim Scoefield, who was doing lookups for this list in the 1899-1928 Vital Records Death Index for state of NM back in July. He may not have the microfilm on loan any longer, but I do know the microfilm is #1991645 and it can be ordered for viewing at any local LDS Family History Center. Best wishes in your search. Am seeking to find more information on Robert P. Carper b 1899 in ?, NM who married ? Risch and had at least 4 children, Warren, Sue, Dolores and Lois. Lois and Warren were born in California, early 1900's. Robert P. Carper remarried Marion B. Herrington/Evans and lived in Los Angeles County. Roberts parents were Joseph Carper and Elizabeth Hunt, both from Virginia, according to Robert's death certificate. The above family has been pieced together from obituaries, death certificates and the on-line CADI and CABI. Would appreciate any help/information anyone can offer. Thanks, Diane
By the looks of the website shown on the message about the Abeyta's buried in Albuquerque, I think you are the same person who sent me a request for info in January and again in February. Every reply I sent to the email address provided was returned as not accepted by the user. If you still want me to check into the cemetery records, send me a good address to contact you and I will see what I can dig up.
