Lake City, Minn., Sept. 22.- The fifteenth annual convention of the Women's Clubs of Minnesota, was opened this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, at the Congregational church, and over it all was the gloom cast by the news of Governor Johnson's death. The presence of Mrs. Phillip N. Moore, of St. Louis, national president that of Mrs. C.G. Higbee, state president, a church full of delegates, all point to a most successful session, but these were sad faces and there was a hush over it all; nothing was thought of but that the governor of the state was lying cold in death. Resolution is Adopted When Mrs. C.G. Higbee took the chair and rose to give her greeting, she did not say what she had prepared; she spoke simply and with great feeling of the news from Rochester, and proposed the following resolution which was unanimously adopted, the convention standing with bowed heads: "Whereas, The honored and beloved Governor of Minnesota, Hon. John A. Johnson, after a week of intense suffering, during which he displayed the same courage and unselfishness which have so endeared him to the people, has passed into the beyond, therefore, Resolved, That we, members of the Minnesota Federation of Women's clubs, share the deep, sincere love which today saddens the state and nation mourns as for a personal friend, a great man, who's broad justice, whose quick sympathies, made him often a source of strength to the Federation. Also, Resolved That we extend to his wife, now so sadly bereaved, our sincere and tender sympathy. Every woman's heart, with hope and human love, may have som! e power to comfort her till God's l Mrs. Moore spoke briefly, as did Miss Margaret J. Evans, and Mrs. G.S. Todd, of Lake City. All made touching reference to the common sorrow. Routine reports were taken up and the convention proceeded to business. Submitted by Brenda Gaetz Email Address cgaetz@mb.sympatico.ca
