The monthly gathering of the Mobile Genealogical Society is held the second Saturday of each month at the old St. Joan of Arc School located at the corner of South Ann Street and Elmira Street in the Historic Oakleigh Garden District in Mobile, Alabama. Doors open at 11:30am and a Genealogy "How To..." Workshop is conducted at high noon. This is followed by a short intermission and then our monthly Members' Meeting and Speaker Program. On June 13th, our workshop topic will be "How To Get The Most Out of the PERSI (Periodical Source Index) CD-Rom." This will be conducted by Laura Lee Scott of Milton, Florida, who (among other things) is the president of the West Florida Genealogical Society and the author of _Genealogical Gleanings_. The featured speaker of the day will be Clinton King of Mobile whose topic will be "A Look at Federal Land Records." Non-members are welcome to attend one or two meetings as our guest, after which we hope you will join and support the Society. The MGS Library is also located in the old St. Joan of Arc School. Library hours are Mondays from 10am to 2pm, Tuesdays from 4pm to 7pm, Fridays from 11am to 3pm and Saturdays from 12pm to 3pm (except during the monthly Members' Meeting). The MGS Library and Media Center is a private facility for the benefit of MGS members. We receive no public funds and depend upon memberships, donations and fund-raising to operate, therefore, use of the facility and its holdings is FREE to MGS members. Non-members may use the facility for a donation of $5.00 per person, per day.
