    1. [NEW-GEN-URL-L] SurnameWeb Introduces Researcher Listings!!!
    2. Dennis Partridge
    3. SurnameWeb Introduces Researcher Listings!!! We are making plans to unroll a researcher listing for EVERY surname on our pages (that's almost 60,000 of them!) However, we have nothing to place on these pages and need your help in documenting your genealogy research interests! We're not looking for a lot of information so adding to the form should be quick and painless for you. Here's the information we are looking for: Surname (only one) Comments (be specific, but brief) Your Name (you may leave this blank) Your Email Address (see Note below) * Note, all of this information WILL appear on our pages, so if you are touchy about having your email on a web page, then sign up with a service like hotmail, and use that email address. If you'd rather submit a web page to our listings, instead of an email address then you can do so by clicking the following link: http://www.surnameweb.org/dbase/registry.cgi?db=user SurnameWeb has for three years provided links to web pages based upon the surname. Your support has been tremendous, and we believe that support will continue with our new upcoming project! We are hoping with this new project we can increase the availability of research information for those people who do not have a web page, by using their email address. You may submit submissions for as many surnames as you wish, but each surname should receive a separate submission. Use of this service will require a monthly email verifying that your email address is still accurate. You will only receive ONE MONTHLY email per email address!!! http://www.surnameweb.org/researcher.htm Your listing will not appear until we have determined that we've received an acceptable amount of interest, so please tell your friends about this project!!! ********************************************************************* This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. 1. [NEW-GEN-URL-L] Civil War Genealogy Chat
    2. gen4m
    3. We will be hosting a special Civil War Genealogy session in the #GenealogyForum channel on IRC Afternet on February 26th at 9PM Eastern time. Michael Hughes, Historian and Web Development Expert will stop by the #GenealogyForum to answer your questions about searching for your Civil War ancestors. Mr. Hughes has a Bachelors Degree in History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and specializes in Civil War Genealogical Research. He has over a dozen direct ancestors that were in the Civil War, both Union and Confederate. Be sure to mark your calendar and join us then. We have had several emails from the lists wanting to know where the #GenealogyForum channel went. Actually, we didn't go anywhere. We are still on Afternet but we change the mode of the channel to S mode which means is does not show on the list of channels on the network. This was done due to the growth of the network. As the net grows there are more kids playing with online and we would rather not be bothered with them. Their method is to find a channel in the list with the most visitors in it and join it regardless of the topic. After you connect to Afternet, type add #GenealogyForum to your channels folder or type /join #GenealogyForum. You can also, now, join through java webchat at: www.afternet.org/chat Just type in a nickname and then #GenealogyForum in the channel window. Hope to see you soon! Check for your surnames on our Search Index at: www.flash.net/~gen4m/

    1. [NEW-GEN-URL-L] Pre-1850 Data
    2. Clifford Williams
    3. Please be informed of two microfilm reels (NARA Series M233-20, 21) entitled "The Descriptive & Historical Register of Enlisted Soldiers in the U.S. Army 1835-1846," from which I have extracted and compiled some very interesting data. The data is of special interest to all Historians, Genealogists, Librarians, Teachers and Students worldwide. Ten's of thousands of individual records can easily be searched, producing very rewarding discoveries and valuable insight to the period. With this information, ancestry links will be made for many who reached a dead-end at the 1850 U.S. Census. Each soldier's entree may include some, or all, of the following: Name: Birthplace: Age: Height: Hair Color: Eye Color: Date of Enlistment: Place of Enlistment: Enlisted by: Unit assignment: Discharge Date: Cause of Discharge: Desertions: Re-enlistment's: Location: Rank: The majority of these young men had been born in Germany. Many came from Ireland and several of the eastern Provences of Canada. Thousands of them saw battles during the Seminole Wars in Florida, and then fought in the War with Mexico as well. For those of you who are interested, please visit the web site linked below. There, you will find the records of the those soldiers (1,690) who served any length of time at the Buffalo Barracks, as a result of the concerns generated by the Patriots War. I wish you all a pleasant and successful adventure. Sincerely yours, Col. Clifford R. Williams The Buffalo Barracks Historical Web Site http://www.buffalonet.org/army/home.html email: buffalobarracks@hotbot.com
