    1. [NEW-GEN-URL-L] GenExchange & Newsletter
    2. Just wanted to remind researchers out there about the GenExchange. We are a totally free project and growing by leaps and bounds. We are still looking for volunteers to adopt states and counties as coordinators. If you are interested in adopting a county or a state, please check us out. Some areas of our site have tons of information added. Others desperately need volunteers to input data. The project is entirely volunteer driven and if there isn't much data there, it's because it hasn't been adopted. Not all volunteers with our project adopt counties or states either. Often they just have lots of their own personal history data that they would like to contribute. We also have many areas of our project where folks can just input and contribute information from their home locality, such as churches, schools, cemeteries, funeral homes, etc. There are many ways to volunteer at the GenExchange. Some (but maybe not all) of our state coordinators have information that they can provide to someone to input. So, please check us out for research purposes, or to contribute and volunteer. We'd love to have you. http://www.genexchange.org Also, for those of you who do not already know, the GenExchange has a newsletter called The Exchange. It is a monthly, text edition which is distributed to our subscription list. After published, it then is added to the GenExchange archives, where it can be viewed in its pretty html version. Topics are varied, but we are constantly attempting to provide valuable information and assistance to ancestor seekers. If you would like to subscribe, please visit http://www.genexchange.com/MailListForm.cfm and fill in the appropriate information, select SUBSCRIBE, and then SUBMIT. Thanks, and I hope you enjoy our online project! It can resemble an F, but has no crossbar. Combined with a following ordinary S, it can resemble a P with a high stem at the beginning. This definitely is a birthplace of Massachusetts in all the cases you mention above. Regards, Robert Robert L. 1. [NEW-GEN-URL-L] Census Location of Birth
    2. Today while at the LDS library the woman next to me and I had a similar problem. I was working with an 1855 NY State Census and she was working with an 1870 NY Federal Census. On several pages, done in the same hand writing, there was a location: Mass which we interpreted as the state of Massachusetts, and NY for New York. On the same page would be the notation: MAPS or MAFS or WAPS or WAFS etc. as a place of birth. Since the pages we were working with had MASS and NY clearly written, we decided the writer of the census page did not mean the "MAPS......" be Massachuetts or New York. It was not that the person "got tired writing" be cause the MASS and NY could be above and below the above notations, written clearly. Has anyone seen something like this "MAPS......." and what location of birth do you believe it refers to. Susanne

    3. Hi guys, I now have a resource page on my website for the Battle of Bothwell Bridge and subsequent wreck of the Crown of London off the coast of Deerness in 1679. This tragedy resulted in the death of most of the prisoners on board. I have two large documents which record the passenger lists, and other documents with photographs, stories and other items of interest. The page has been up for some time, but the recent addition of two excellent documents has come from the research efforts of Bob Miller and Mel Rich - without their input this information would not be available here. If anyone has further information which I can put on this site as a resource for others, please email me. Look in the Genealogy section of the site listed below.
