WOW, I'm totally amazed at the responses coming in about these biographies! I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your kind words and thanks. However, I can not take the credit for this great work. It was all added to the WVGenExchange by volunteers and visitors to the site. There are 22 county coordinators and a terrific state coordinator working with many other volunteers to get these bios, historical accounts and other information online for all of you. (all for free too!) So rest assured, I have been passing on all your thank you notes to all of them, letting them know that their hard work is very much appreciated! They are a great group! Earlier today, I posted a note about the wonderful collection of 1,049 West Virginia Biographies and 127 Historical Accounts at the WVGenExchange with a list of all the surnames that began with the letter *A*. Since that time, my mailbox has been flooded with requests for other surnames and lists of other letters. So to help save myself a little time, and I hope the rest of you don't mind, I will post them to the list over the next few days. A few fantastic thing have come from this today. I received 4 emails from folks going over to the WVGenExchange after reading my first 2 posts to review these biographies. Boy were they surprised and excited to find their ancestors biography listed! (some include old photos too). This is so great! But there is much much more! The GenExchange covers the entire U.S. and currently has 8,371 Biographies and 1,768 Historical Accounts posted as of right now besides the nearly 2 million other records. So if you are looking for someone outside of WV, click on the USGenExchange link in my signature and select the state you're researching in. Good luck everyone, glad I can help! The Web's oldest and largest genealogy community, RootsWeb, was just bought out by MyFamily.com, a commercial network of family history sites. While assuring users that RootsWeb access and sites will continue to be free, MyFamily.com officials also say owning the hugely popular RootsWeb will provide profitable exposure to its many subscription-only databases and records. What do YOU think about MyFamily.com and RootsWeb joining forces? Answer FamilyTreeMagazine.com's opinion poll and let your voice be heard throughout the genealogy community at http://www.familytreemagazine.com/rootsweb.html

Dear Genealogists, Thanks to 141 survey respondants thus far who have fill out the Palm/Handheld Genealogcal Survey. There's still time before the June 23rd close to take the survey. I'm a software engineer and genealogist who is developing genealogical software made for Handheld and Palm PC's. As a genealogist myself, I know how important it is for genealogists to provide input on the type of software they want to use. In efforts to gather information, I'm requesting anyone interested in filling out a survey to point your browsers to the following url: http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?MA7C3798G48DEHJ1MHMF7DJE The survey ends June 23rd, 2000. A summary of results of the survey will be posted on the genpalm mailing list I've created. P.S. - I've also started a mailing list on www.egroups.com called genpalm. If your interested in subscribing send a message to genpalm-subscribe@egroups.com putting the word "subscribe" as the only text of the message. If you get an account at www.egroups.com you have access to web interface of the mailing list which includes the links I've started about genealogy and handheld/palm devices. Thanks you for your time. Sincerely, David Newman, Moderator gedpalm mailing list

A Surname Site now has almost 950 links to sites with names. Included are links to family genealogy pages, as well as church, marriage, military, birth and death records. The database pages have been completely redesigned. Everyone with a family genealogy page is invited to add a link to your site in our database. Links are categorized in many ways, including alphabetical for names, and by country and state for locality specific sites. A search engine has been developed that can be put on your site, if you care to. The Ancestor Archive and Queries pages are also growing.
