Hi, everyone - Guess what! At long last the burial records for the Revolutionary War Cemetery in Salem are online!!! Yep, all 1000+ of them! This is an old cemetery by American standards. If memory serves, the earliest death record I found among them was for 1708... that's going back quite a ways! So, please drop by the Washington County GenExchange and search these records. We are very grateful to Al Cormier, the historian for the town of Salem, for making these records available to us to put online for all of you! The easiest way, in my opinion, is for each independent genealogical organization and family history society, to provide LOCAL online FREE WEB SPACE, for any individual[s] having database information relevant to said organizations, of either an historical or genealogical nature: becoming thereby, the primary review Authority for Certification of local and regional genealogical and history record depositories/standards, with power to credential, under the auspices of area licensing agencies and international standards bureaus.. This web based "Federated Independent Genealogical and Family History Web Societies"; joined together, but independently operated, would also offer automatic internal Search services and automatic online submissions of data to all major search engines, ASAP. Fees generated from local Society Membership would fund the individual sites, with a worldwide umbrella organization, in the similitude of Deja.com, providing centralized resources; paid by general advertising revenues that could be obtained from local or regional organizations: cities, counties, states or nations; clubs, fraternal organizations, etc.; in a quid pro quo mutual arrangement. This could include such novel concepts as offering local services via TV commercials for non profits; being a sponsored agency of a local newspaper in return for publishing periodic commentary of local civic dignitaries; being an established link to a local Rotary Organization; BECOMING registered as an OFFICIAL not-for-profit organization and eligible thereby for gift contributions from estates, fund drives and the like. Becoming a contact point for local educational institutions and thus providing "history and genealogy" programs for primary and secondary school systems within a region; being the local genealogy and family history reference consultant point of contact: for local libraries [FHC], universities and colleges; historical societies.
