    1. [NEW-GEN-URL-L] A New Waldensian Website
    2. Gerhard Ruf
    3. Hello fellow Rooters, I would like to announce the creation of a new website that provides help and information to those researching their Waldensian ancestors in the Piedmont area of modern day Italy. The home page for the site is http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~waldense/ The purpose of the site is to provide research instruction and help with finding your waldensian ancestors most of whom were forced to leave the area at the end of the 1600s because of their protestant religious beliefs. At that time the Piedmont valleys were a part of french speaking Savoy. Of particular note is the page of Waldensian Surnames at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~waldense/surnames.htm It may give you an indication of whether a particular ancestral line of yours could have been part this religious community. Happy hunting, Gerhard Ruf webmaster

    1. [NEW-GEN-URL-L] Military Records - Civil War
    2. Thanks to Sally Haverly, we have just added about 120 more names to the military records database at the USGenExchange. These records are for soldiers buried in the Ames, Iowa, cemetery. The names came from a 1917 Iowa Weekly newspaper article in the Ames, Iowa, paper for "Homage to GAR Veterans." It lists name, regiment, company, and whether they were killed in action. Below are just a few of the surnames added to the Civil War military records database: BRENNEMAN BIGELOW BACON BREESE COPESTAKE CRISTMAN CRAIG DEAL EDDY GREGORY GREELEY GRAVES HODSON HEMSTREET JONES KELLEY LOUD LOUGHMAN LYMAN McCARTNEY McELYES MUNN PITSOR STARR SMITH THAYER TILDEN WILTSIE Many of these veterans served in the war in units other than Iowa, so check out the database and you might find your ancestor listed there. 1. [NEW-GEN-URL-L] "The Raynor Family Web Site"
    2. Karima
    3. Good Evening, Have you checked out the "Raynor Family Web Site" yet? Dr. Stuart Howell has generously donated his complete "Raynors of Ketchaponack" (a genealogy of the descendants of Thurston Raynor) to our site. I just added a search engine today, so searching is a bit easier. The URL is below signature. As a matter of fact, almost any family that lived in the Long Island area from the late 1600s up to this day has, more than likely, married into the RAYNOR family at some point in time.
