Just put it on your web site, sit back, and watch your traffic grow! > OK, now I'm going to publicly come out and speak, not only about this site, but a whole suite of sites hosted by this company/persons. Folks, this "top 100" site is a sham. The person(s) who created it, have been kicked off the "real/first" top 100 site (http://www.worldwide-top100.net/tops5/), because of their deceptive practice of "rotating" hits. The main purpose of this site, is not to create a list of the top 100 sites for genealogy, but to promote his own pages, most of which attempt to dupe persons into buyin "Net Detective 2000" (snake oil in my opinion), and/or single pages providing access to Ancestry.com. Let's look at this "top 100 site's listings so far. Each number listed below is the ranking for the site. Some of the other sites located at this page, are reputable. I will forward this message on to each of these webmasters:" 1) The #1 site is his own page. The first two links on this new page?: Search 274 Million Names in 1722 Genealogy Databases How to Obtain Birth, Death, Marriage, and Divorce Certificates Both of them sites by the webmaster. The "search" site is the simple door to "Ancestry." The second site, unfortunately, is a good site for records on vital records, but it's association with the non-genealogy program "Net Detective 2000" cheapens it. 2) Download Net-Detective 2000 (figures doesn't it? Same page as mentioned above) 5) SurnameSearch At Ancestry.com (same page as mentioned above) 6) Investigate your Family History and Locate Relatives (Net-Detective 2000 page at different location) 10) Newly Released Genealogy Books Announcement List (another of his pages, prominently links to NetDetective 2000 and his Ancestry links). 15) Search 274 million names in 1722 Genealogy Databases (yet another of his Ancestry pages at a different location) 16) Download NetDetective 2000 (yet again at another location) 24) NetDetective 2000 (and once again, another page for this snake oil software). Am I the only person noticing the prevalent theory here? If you want to send YOUR visitors who have grown to trust YOU to sites like these, then continue to link to these snake-oil salesmen. Otherwise, remove YOUR links to ANY of these pages. As a disclaimer, Ancestry.com is not to blame for the marketing practices of this persons(s). They are a worthy paid site for data. You can find them at: http://www.ancestry.com/ BTW, you may wonder about the incentives for him to do this? He makes money off the banners on his site, from anyone joining Ancestry.com through his site, and $20 per pop for NetDetective 2000. I don't belittle anyone trying to create a money flow to help pay for their site, but the marketing practices associated with this particular person(s) is too much to stomach. Now go, and take on the day! Best Wishes, Dennis

Most of them could not expect to pass the age of 40, if that." . . . "So to get to my question, what is it, then, that -- or why should this culture, why should we focus on the past? Why is it important, or is it, indeed, important, for us to go back to the past and recognize the accomplishments of people who have done these things in the past?" . . . "PROFESSOR DAVIS: Professor Cruz, thank you for your question and your description of the many features of our 20th century life that develop -- some going back to the year 1000 and some to the year 1500. One is partly the fascination of in human life, of different ways the people have lived, including ways that might not contribute to us." . . . SEE ALSO: 60:20512 Benedictow, Ole J. The medieval demographic system of the Nordic countries. ISBN 82-91114-01-3. 1993. 229 pp. Middelalderforlaget: Oslo, Norway. In Eng. This is a general study of the demographics of the Nordic countries in medieval times. Data are primarily from 15 osteo-archeological studies of medieval cemeteries carried out in recent decades. "The author concludes that the demographic system of the Nordic countries must have been qualitatively different from the early modern demographic regime. It is, among other things, distinguished by considerably higher mortality, lower life expectancy, higher nuptiality, lower age at marriage, especially for females, and higher fertility. This shows that the transformation from medieval society to (early) modern Europe comprised profound changes not only in economic, social and political structures, but also in the basic demographic pattern."
