    3. Hello,   How is everyone?     I hope all researchers are staying healthy or getting healthy.   This morning on the early news on TV they mentioned that at a Ski Resort a "moose" is running around scaring the people trying to ski.    The news anchor wondered what a female moose is called.    Being curious I looked it up and they are a bull and cow.    But, I also read that "moose" is a Native American word.    (In the UK the same or similar animal is an Elk.)   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moose   That made me wonder whether anyone had an animal story which involved their grandparents or ancestors !     I can't think of any at the moment.     But, going back to the 1600's and 1700's there must have been people arriving  in North America who met up with an animal or 2.   And, possibly animals they had never seen before.     And, up in Canada, when my ancestors arrived along the Maine / Nova Scotia / New Brunswick border, in late 1700's, probably met up with animals in the wilderness.    And, in the 1820's when another set of ancestors arrived in Canada and settled in the Prov. of Quebec,  but way north in the Laurentian Mountains,  they most undoubtedly met up with animals.   And, that reminds me of a documentary I watched part of last week which mentioned how "beavers"  almost became extinct.   The North American beaver population was once more than 60 million, but as of 1988 was 6–12 million. This population decline is due to extensive hunting for fur, for glands used as medicine and perfume, and because their harvesting of trees and flooding of waterways may interfere with other land uses  ...   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver   ...  Also,  I mentioned on two of my other Lists whether anyone wanted to discuss or mention -- which "brick wall" you will spend a lot of time on during 2013.   (On my family-tree, I divided them into categories:    "brick walls,"  "concrete-block walls,"  and "concrete-block walls put together with reinforced cement.")   Betty             (near Lowell, MA)   List Administrator   (on Lists and Boards for 11 yrs.;  now an Admin for 10 Lists and 5 Boards)     (I'm fine.   I had 3, unexpected health problems last summer which meant trips to doctors' offices and 2 Day Surgeries, and tests, etc.   But, starting 2013 they are all fixed or fixable.    Within a month I need to decide which "preventative treatment" I will have.  ...  The annoying health problem is that my Osteoarthritis has gotten worse, esp. my knee and hip,  and I can no longer .sit.  at my computer as long as I used to.     I'm starting a piggy-bank so I can save up for an IPad so I can e-mail from the couch.)
