    3. Have you tried this site: http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/surname/ It will show your the origins of the surname and where it was found in Ireland in the 1850s. While this is after your ancestor emigrated, she left relatives at home. However, as you probably already know, the research first must take place in VT. Check for death certificates, children birth certs, gravestone inscriptions, wills, obits, etc. You just never know which one will help until you collect all you can. 1. [N-E-IRISH] Who were the Scot-Irish who settled in Londonderry NH in 1700's
    2. Donald HUGHES
    3. Hello everyone. About 3 months ago I finally found the name of my 5 times grandmother's surname. In 1880 census her daughter stated that her mother was Irish. Jane Borland & her husband Benjamin Rose lived in Winhall VT in 1790 census and then in Dorset VT in 1800 census, then they moved to St. Lawrence County New York where they raised their family and are buried in Crary Mills Cemetery near Canton. Several references in obits mentioned Scot-Irish heritage for Jane, but no clue to her surname. Then I received a copy of an old letter and in the very 1st line. "Grandpa's mother's name was Jane Bourland". I have since been given information on a David Borland who lived very early in Londonderry NH, probably the David Borland who was one of the grantees of the short-lived township of "Coulraine" NH in 1726. Does anyone know of this place? A John Borland bought a settlers right in Jaffery in 1758, he served in the Rev war from there and in 1778 he moved to Rockingham VT. My Jane Borland was born about 1763 from her tombstone. A James Borland located in Dorset VT around the time 1800 when Jane & her family lived there. James Borland moved to North Evans, Erie County NY and is buried there as is Jane Borland Rose's brother-in-law Joseph Rose who was born in Winhall VT. Jane joined the Congregational Church in Dorset same year as James Borland's wife. Were these settlers of Londonderry Protestant? Were there other earlier settlements of Scot-Irish? 3. MARIAH (ANNIE) MC BRENNAN/BRENNAN Tis a sad story of Mariah Brennan. She was but a young lass when she landed on the shores of America. She took up servicing the wealthy as a maid in the summer resort of Narragansett. It was in Narragansett that she met a young fisherman, Edward Morton Tourjee whom she shortly married thereafter. They spent the rest of their lives in South Kingstown, R.I., and raising their 8 children. Mariah, died 9 Nov. 1912 and took with her to her grave the secrets of her childhood. Several stories of speculation have swirled around one being…..she and two sisters stowed away on a ship to America after fleeing the grips of the enslaved Catholic Work Houses that operated throughout Ireland. The second theory is that she, her parents and numerous brother and sister came to America to improve their standard of living. It has been noted that one of her sisters married a Dr. Hathaway in Providence, but unfortunately no proof has ever verified this story. We are not even sure of her true name, as so many were used in public records. Mariah also known as Annie was a small spindly, feisty lady that always wore black, minced no time on frivolities. Mariah did not approve of smoking but was know to always carry a flask for medicinal purposes. The many descendants that Mariah has left behind still wonder what the real story is behind this mysterious young woman that left her homeland to make a new life for herself. Was it too horrible to remember or was Mariah just a product of the tough times, so many faced in Ireland, or were the mystical promises of the new land too tempting to resist? Any clues or ideas would be appreciated by so many…..thank you. 2. Regarding the family of Gen. John SULLIVAN, the famous General who served under George Washington. My paternal grandmother was a SULLIVAN, and my father always said that we were related to the General, but I have not been able to prove such. I can get back to my grtx3 grandfather James SULLIVAN who was supposedly b. 29 May 1794 in Baltimore, Md. No parents names as of yet for him, and I really can't pinpoint him as being in Baltimore at the time. If any of you have the lineage of Gen. John SULLIVAN and those of his brothers, and can somehow help me make a connection, it would be greatly appreciated, as I have been searching on this on and off for about 15 years now. Many thanks to you all. Janine ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

When that opens look for the box - Include Message in Reply - remove the check mark from that box. I am reluctant to share any of the generations who have living members listed. I feel that this could be an invasion of their privacy. Because of this, the data we send to people who request it is usually the first 4 - 5 generations. How do others feel about sharing data which has living family members listed? Mary Ellen Chambers Lakewood, OH Richard Danca <rdanca@gmail.com> wrote: I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who gets this reaction when I mention I'm doing a family history: "That's great. I always wanted to know where we came from. Will you send me what you have?" Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy to share what I know. But a little reciprocation once in a while might be nice. Sigh. Here's a possible solution: a web site -- geni.com -- that lets you create an interactive family history you can share with other family members, whom the site then invites to join you and participate in the project. And the site promises to keep your info restricted to people you choose to share it with. I've only looked at the site briefly and, though I'm not a big fan of Flash animations, which the site uses for the interactivity, but it seems pretty straightforward. Heck, maybe I can even get someone to participate! I'm curious to know if anyone on this list has used geni.com. Here's some info from the web-site's FAQ page: ----------------------------- Geni is a unique approach to solving the problem of genealogy, which is the question of how everyone is related. Geni lets you create a family tree through our fun simple interface. When you add a relative's email address, he or she will be invited to join your tree. That relative can then add other relatives, and so on. Your tree will continue to grow as relatives invite other relatives. Each family member has a profile which can be viewed by clicking their name in the tree. This helps family members learn more about each other and stay in touch. Family members can also share information and work together to build profiles for common ancestors. Geni is a private network. Only the people in your tree can see your tree and your profile. Geni will not share your personal information with third parties. Geni was founded by former executives and early employees of PayPal, Yahoo! Groups, Ebay, and Tribe.
