    3. Hi, I am a new member to these lists and I am wondering how they will be handling to closing of the Rootsweb lists? Will there be a transition to Groups.io like many others or some other application? This is a very important collection for anyone with Irish ancestors since it is only one of two full censuses for Ireland that has survived. A typical record in this collection lists the name, age, occupation, relationship to the head of the household, marital status, education/literacy, religion and birth country for all the members of the household. Have you searched the Griffith's Valuation and the Tithe Applotments land records?  While these two records do not give much family information, the do give a place where they lived and once you know that, you can find the needed church records.  You, like myself, have a common Irish surname which makes it harder. The Griffith's Valuation were done 1848-1864, in case you have not checked them: https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.htm You will need to look for John's father since John was in US at that time. The Tithe Applotments were earlier and are also online for free use on the Archives of Ireland website. http://census.nationalarchives.ie/search/vob/home.jsp These are like the Griffiths  in that they only list the head of household name and were done 1824-1856 Once you get a some possibilities, I can give you the online address for the church records.  Most are online and free to look at. -- Pat Connors http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. First of all, thank you to Pat for the reminder that I haven't put out an inquiry in a long time. I've been at this for longer than I wish to admit and I try this inquiry every year or so with great hope. I'm still facing a brick wall on finding the birthplace in Ireland of my gggrandfather, John O'Connell of Andover Massachusetts. John was born in Ireland in 1825, the son of Jeremiah and Bridget O'Connell. He emigrated to Lawrence Massachusetts ca. 1846 and shortly thereafter to Andover Massachusetts where he married Mary Horan (b. Buttevant Co. Cork) in 1850. John, a wheelwright, died in Andover in 1896. I have located all the normal church, vital, naturalization, etc. records, in the U.S. for John and Mary's family but I've found nothing on John's actual birthplace. He was on the 1888 voter rolls in Andover MA but I've found nothing for him in the naturalization records. He didn't serve in the Civil War. He did own a wheelright business in Andover but I've found no records associated with it. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. 3. This is a reminder.  This list has not had any activity in quite awhile. It could mean, we all have filled in our Family Trees, or it could mean, we have found other ways to help us, or maybe we are just not interested in genealogy anymore. However, there are probably many members of these lists that maybe just gave up looking.  So, what I am suggesting is to those who already have filled their trees up, maybe sending an post about /how /you filled up your trees would help others find the help they needed to unlock some of their genealogical mysteries. And to those who are stuck and need help, send some questions, tell us how you are stuck and maybe, just maybe, so good soul will have answers to you questions and enable you to unlock those family tree mysteries. -- Pat Connors, list owner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

I have had my tree on Rootsweb for many years, almost 20, I think, and it can be found here: https://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=nymets I uploaded it from my Family Tree Maker tree.  For living people in the tree, like me, it just says 'living people' without birth data.  For example: https://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=nymets&id=I0001 These trees maybe able to help you with your research.  You can search surnames and trees here: https://wcbeta.rootsweb.com/?fbclid=IwAR2XW35G-vJ4aAfs9vw5w70z2ZJWbKYestAn0f98mr1vHX7JgjuB-Ik461o If you put up your own tree, others may contact you.  I have been contacted many times by unknown cousins, a couple from Australia, and together we were able solve some of our mysteries. If you have any questions on how to find or navigate around this new updated addition to Rootsweb, please ask your questions on the list because others probably have the same questions plus there are others on our list who may know more about WC than I do. -- Pat Connors http://www.connorsgenealogy.com _______________________________________________ ====New England Irish Mailing List==== Check out the NE-Irish website: http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/NEIrish/ _______________________________________________ Email preferences: http://bit.ly/rootswebpref Unsubscribe https://lists.rootsweb.com/postorius/lists/new-england-irish@rootsweb.com Privacy Statement: https://ancstry.me/2JWBOdY Terms and Conditions: https://ancstry.me/2HDBym9 Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blog RootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb community
