    1. [New-Caledonia] James Page, Horace Haverhill Page
    2. Ian Buckley via
    3. Two brothers of my great grandfather migrated to South Australia in 1850. JAMES PAGE became a prominent citizen of Adelaide and owned a shipping company trading with New Caledonia. His brother HORACE HAVERHILL PAGE is a mystery: he disappeared from Australian official records some time after he was declared bandkrupt. For instance, there is no record of his death. One theory is that he shipped out of Australia on one of his brother's ships and may have spent some time in the French Pacific. He spoke good French. James had spent time as a young man studying at the Sorbonne and it is possible that Horace, too, had been a student in Paris. If anyone with knowledge of New Caledonia from 1860 onwards has come across the surname PAGE I'd be most grateful to hear from them. Or if someone with expertise in the area could suggest how I might further my research - again, I'd be very grateful - IAN BUCKLEY

Have you got his death cert. in 1915. I wonder if he was in the war at all? That might be an idea for the records would have to be right if so. 3. Hi Manaia, I have sent a reply to the list that I received Isabella Walker nee Simpson's death certificate. Very promptly too which was lovely. I am now looking for the rest of the family. Do I send another email to the address below asking for individual Death certs or is there some other archives that might have that information. I am looking for the death cert' of James Walker Isabella's husband at Noumea unfortunately I don't when he died but presume it was after Isabella so it would have been after 1885. James Walker was born c 1836 at Dundee Scotland. How would I find anything out about their children Peter born 1866, Jessie 1869 ,Eliza born 1871, Alexander, Thomas and William. Also how would I find out when they arrived in New Caledonia? 3. Rootsweb mailing lists are automatic and are managed by list robots. These robots take care of subscription requests and bouncing (rejected) emails. The most frequently asked question of subscribers is: ***************** "Why have I been unsubscribed?" Answer: If your list mail cannot be delivered for any reason, the list robot unsubscribes you after a certain number of failed attempts. (For the NEW-CALEDONIA list the maximum member bounce score is: 3) This can happen for a number of reasons - some of the more common reasons are that your mailbox is full, your spam filter is blocking the list mail, your ISP is blocking list mail from Rootsweb, you have put an automatic responder on your email.... If you were unsubscribed and did not wish to be taken off the mailing list, simply subscribe again. However be forewarned that if whatever caused the list robot to unsubscribe you the first time is still happening, it will simply remove you again after a specific number of bounces--3--(rejected list mail to your email address). But as a courtesy to all NEW-CALEDONIA listers, I can re-subscribe you manually. Just let me know. ****************** Other questions asked are: "How do I unsubscribe?" Answer: Simply follow the instructions at the bottom of every list mail message. ****************** "Why is my mail not getting to the mailing list?" Answer: Make sure that you are sending from the same email you are subscribed under. The list robot does not recognize names. It only recognizes email addresses. There are two modes in which to subscribe: 1. The -L mode. The "regular" mode now. All regular subscribers receive posts/messages made to the list as separate/individual emails. 2. The -D mode. The "digest" mode now. All digest subscribers receive posts/messages made to the list as one BIG email. .... The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subscribed in both -L and -D modes.
