Jane, If you do not have access to American Genealogical-Biographical Index at your local library, I can scan the Neville/Nevill/Nevil, etc. references related to a genealogy column of Boston Transcript and send them to you in an attached file by private e-mail. I am still looking for SC Neville-Cole references. Coales were associated with the Neville family in northern VA much earlier than the time of Francis. Although it looks like yours came from England much later, you might want to file the following from list member Shirley Wilcox: James Handley Marshall, Abstracts of the Wills and Administrations of Northampton Co., VA 1632-1802 (Camden, ME: Picton Press, 1994). p52 Northampton Orders VIII, No. 8, 1657-64 Hickman, Elizabeth, -28 Dec 1659. An inquest held at house of RICHARD NEVELL could not determine the cause of her death, although bodily injury was apparent. -p58 p60 Deeds, Wills etc. IX No. 7, 1657-1666 NEVELL, RICHARD - 25 Sept 1659/2 Nov 1659. "Entire state to my wife Mary Nevell." Wit: John Coale, George (X) Such, p48 {59} ---------------- Have you tried the Charleston, SC Roots-L list? Someone on it might have information about the SC Coles. I am sorry I can't be of more help. However, I won't forget your Neville-Cole connection and will keep looking. The link sticks in my mind because the Nevels group I am researching in Mississippi lived on Cole's Creek in Jefferson Co. Jan ----------------------------- >Jan, > >All of your suggestions are good ones. Samuel Neville must have run away >to Charleston after his mother Sophia COLE died which was in 1813, at >age 46.
