Milton and Daris, I have been looking for some surname that is linked with both Nevil groups who were in Amherst Co. and finally noticed one today when I was looking at Ivan Nevil's book. It is the Whitehead name. It may be coincidence, but I thought you might be interested if you are trying to find out more about Thomas Nevil's family in Amherst Co., VA. Ivan Nevill's line is shown in his book as follows: James Nevil b. ca 1686; d. 11-9-1752. James is shown to have m. (1) a Widow Keen, but this is probably an error. A James Nevil of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania did marry a Widow Keen, but he was in a different generation than James b. ca 1686. Although the name of James's first wife is not known, he had four Nevil children before he had children by Lucy Thomas, his second wife. One of the 4 known children of the first marriage includes James Nevil, b. 1728 - d. 12-24-1784; m. Mary Lewis. One of their sons was the James Nevil, mistakenly shown to have m. Sally Shrader in 1818 in Amherst Co. Based on Shirley's notes, we can conclude that your James, son of Thomas, is indeed the one who m. Sally Shrader. Another of their sons was Zachariah Nevil who m. 1806 to Ann Scott Jefferson (niece of Thomas Jefferson, according to Ivan Nevill). Zach d. ca. 1830 and his estate was administered in Nelson Co., VA. In his book, Ivan Nevill published the administration bond for the estate of Zach. Nevil. It is found in Will Book D, 1930-1836, Nelson Co., VA. I don't know if the following administration bond indicates an actual family relationship between John Whitehead and Zach. Nevil, but Whitehead was one of the administrators for Zach.' estate.
