Hi Sandy, Thank you for your reply to my query. I have information on George and his family in Montgomery Co., TN, because some of them also owned property in Jefferson Co., MS, on Cole's Creek where my Nevill/Nevels lived. I have not found a connection between the two families yet, but considering how uncommon the Nevill name is, it is odd two find three and maybe four unrelated lines living within a few miles of each other in the early 1800's in MS: (1) Denis Nevill family, which originated in PA (or perhaps MD), lived on Cole's Creek, Jefferson Co., MS, before moving to LA in early 1800's. Denis said to be native of Ireland in two documents. (2) John and Joseph Bargel Nevill, sons of George Nevill, owned land on Cole's Creek and in old Greenville in Jefferson Co., MS in early 1800's. All were residents of Montgomery Co., TN by late 1700's after George migrated from Fauquier Co., VA, to NC/SC counties located along the disputed western border of NC/SC. In the early 1900 Booger genealogy, George is said to be the brother of your James, and although they likely were brothers, actual proof has eluded researchers thus far. (3)Philip and James Nevill, who were in Washington Co., PA, during Revolution, owned land by late 1700's on Cole's Creek, Jefferson Co., MS, and also on Bayou Pierre (just above Cole's Creek). James disappeared by 1800's. I don't know if he died or moved on somewhere else. Philip sold some of James's property, but I can't find a deed, probate record, or anything else which shows the connection between the two. A William Mackey is found in deeds with them. A William Mackey is also associated with your James Nevill in Barren County. I have not been able to find out if the Mackey in MS is same as one in KY. Since James and Philip fought in Rev., they would have been born ca. 1750 or before. Philip remained in MS and had two daughters and a son Thomas. (4)Another James Nevill, b. ca 1775, is found with Humphrey Beardin and others in PASSPORTS OF SOUTHWEST (not exact name of book but close - need to check) in late 1700's. These passports were granted in TN to people wishing to cross the state. Names of others travelling with them are McCauley, Huff, and Francis Jones. Some of these names are found around descendants of Benjamin Nevill line in Granville/Halifax/Orange Co., NC area. James Nevill and Humphrey Beardin are found next to each other on petition in Jefferson Co., MS shortly after passport date (late 1700's). James remained in MS and seems to be the progenitor of my line there. He lived on Cole's Creek near Martin Nevill/Nevels. Martin married Polly Roberts. Tradition in Roberts family is that James was Martin's brother, and that James married Elizabeth Roberts, the sister of Polly (no proof of James's marriage, but Martin and Polly(Mary)'s marriage record in Jefferson Co.) About three years ago I learned of William and Martin Nevill in Sumner Co., TN, in late 1700's. A William and Martin disappeared from Sumner Co. records in early 1800's and a William and Martin appeared soon after in Jefferson Co., MS. However, I can't find a direct connection between them and the James and Martin Nevill who were already there. In our past discussions, some of us have observed that the Nevills who were part of George Nevill's line in Montgomery Co., TN,were very chummy with Nevills who descended from Benjamin Nevill of Granville Co., NC, and who also came to Montgomery Co., TN. No documented connection previous to their arrivals in Montgomery Co. has been found. Sooo... you can see I am open to any possible connection with my two MS Nevill/Nevels lines. I keep looking at your James Nevill family because of the Mackey connection in KY and MS and because an Adam Jackman lived close to James in MS. Adam was the name of the bother of a Jackman who was related to your family and who came to Barren Co., KY. It seems possible that if Montgomery Co., TN Nevills were buying property near my Nevills in MS that your Nevills could have been doing the same. Do you have any "loose" Nevills in your line?
